April 6, 1919-March 29, 2016 Pendleton April 8, 1933-April 2, 2016 Everett Carson of Milton-Freewater passed away on March 30, 2016, at Provi- dence St. Mary Medical Center at the age of 90 years. A private family interment will be held at the Mt. View Cemetery in Walla Walla followed by a celebration of life at the First Christian Church, 518 S. Main St. Milton-Freewater, on Thursday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Lyons RI¿FLDWLQJ 0HPR- rial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the Carson Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Everett Leon Carson was the son of Charles and Amy Carson and was born in Park Hill, Okla., on July 27, 1925. He received his early schooling in a country school in that area where he rode his horse “Paint” to school every day. His family homesteaded in the Tahlequah, Oklahoma, area after the 1936 “dust bowl” devastated their farm. Everett enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was discharged from the Army in 1947. After the Army he went back to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and worked in the farming industry and that is where he met the love of his life, Patsy Shaw, as they were picking cotton! Everett followed Patsy and her family as they traveled across the United States looking for work. They ended up in Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1952 where they were married. The married couple then moved and settled in the little farming town of Milton-Free- water, Oregon, where they had four children: Betty, Anita, Everett Jr. and Bryon. They stayed in the area and raised their children where they were involved in the children’s 4-H and &DPS¿UH SURMHFWV baseball, snowmo- bile riding in the Blue Mountains and car racing. Everett was a master mechanic for his two sons, Everett and Bryon, as they traveled the area drag racing. He enjoyed drag racing right up until his death. Everett worked for Birdseye and D&K food processing compa- QLHV DV D ¿HOG PHFKDQLF IRU over 36 years, retiring in 1993. He and his co-workers proudly claimed “they feed the world!” He enjoyed working in the farm industry and he especially enjoyed working with the young people who would work in the harvests during their summer vacations. Mary was born in Pend- leton, Oregon, April 6, 1919, to Jim and Clara Harvey and raised on the family ranch in Despain Gulch. She graduated from Pendleton High School in the class of 1938, and the University of Oregon in 1942, where she was a Colee member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Mary lived for 49 years in Eugene, Oregon, where she was a teacher in the Eugene school system. In 2005 she moved to Port Townsend to be near family. Following retirement she became involved in researching family genealogy, and had a keen interest in family, both past and present, until her last day. She was also fascinated with current events and politics. She was preceded in death by Edwin, her husband of 58 years, in 2002. Mary is survived by sons Jim (Marilyn) of Port Townsend, Washington, and Roger (Joyce) of Wilmington, North Carolina, grandson Todd Colee, and great-granddaughter Heather Colee of Pendleton, Oregon. Mary will be remem- bered for her generosity and love of family. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. No service is planned at this time.
