RECORDS Tuesday, March 29, 2016 East Oregonian OBITUARIES DEATH NOTICES Helen Louise Boesch Roberta DeAnn ‘Annie’ Elgin Bobby Leroy Bash Pendleton January 19, 1941-March 22, 2016 Heppner March 15, 1944-March 14, 2016 Hermiston Jan. 31, 1939-March 25, 2016 Helen Louise Boesch was born on January 19, 1941, in Baker County, to parents Cecil and Marie Stultz. She died on March 22, 2016, at her home in Pendleton, Oregon, at the age of 75 years. She is survived by her husband Don of 55 years of marriage; two sons, Jeff, his wife Dee and his son Justin, all of Umatilla, and Jerry, his wife Laurie and their two children, Kess and Tristen, all of Boise; and her daughter Janell and her two chil- dren, Brandon and Boesch Alexis, all of Helix. Also surviving are KHU WKUHH EURWKHUV DQG ¿YH sisters. Helen worked as a book- keeper in Baker City and later owned a used furniture store in Pendleton for many years until she retired at 62. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grand- children. Special thanks to her loving caregivers, Kathy Weatherspoon, Bobbie Bushman and Riki Cate-McKague. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. At her request no services will be held. Irene Jeanette Young Hermiston March 25, 1925-March 25, 2016 Irene Jeanette Young passed away at Brookdale Assisted Living in Herm- iston on March 25, 2016. She was born on March 25, 1925, in Seattle, Wash- ington. We like to think she gave herself a birthday present by allowing herself to join her dear husband Willis McClellen Young, who passed away in 2004. They not only were eternal sweethearts but best friends. Irene had many jobs through the years but her career job was as the manger of lamps Young and china at Sears and Roebucks. She left that job in southern California to move to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, where she and Willis owned and operated a KOA Camp- ground. Irene was very industrious and was not afraid of working hard. Not only did she work full-time the majority of her life but also raised two daughters and was an excellent gardener. After moving to Hermiston she and Willis created a mini farm in which they gardened and raised goats and chickens. In their later years they moved to a smaller place but she continued gardening, even being seen out working in her garden with a cane. Her yards were always a masterpiece. Irene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. Her favorite was working in the Relief Society. She and Willis were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity. Irene loved animals, especially dogs and goats. She was a farm girl at heart and dearly loved her time at Patch Work Acres, the name they gave their mini farm. In her later years she loved to listen to friends and acquaintances tell their stories about farm life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Young; daughter Sharlene Young; father Arnold Herbst; mother Marie Herbst; brother Arthur Herbst III; and grandson Ted Callaway. Irene leaves behind two daughters, Darlene Gill of Crockett, Texas (Teddy), and Ilene Callaway of Kennewick, Wash.; seven grandchildren: Tim Callaway (Rose), Brian Barca (Barbara), Tammy Plunkett (Roy), Candice Barber (Keith), Tom Call- away (Sarah), and Trisha Judd. She also leaves 25 JUHDWJUDQGFKLOGUHQDQG¿YH great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Particia Eckely of Burns, Ore., and many nieces and nephews. Irene’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston, Oregon. A memorial funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner. A luncheon will immediately follow at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. She was born March 15, 1944, at Redmond, Oregon, the daughter of Robert and Dickse Keyes Williams. Annie was raised in Twick- enham, Oregon; her early school years were attended at Twickenham School, taught by her mother Dickse, the only teacher in the one-room school house. She then tran- sitioned into the neighboring town of Mitchell through her high school years, where she graduated in 1962. Ann married Jacy Lee Gibbs in 1964 in Twick- enham. They later divorced. Ann then married Patrick N. Elgin on May 20, 1979, in Prineville, Oregon. In 1980, Pat and Ann moved their family to Pat’s family farm, dubbed “Last Chance Ranch,” where the family farmed until health forced the sale. Annie sold real estate for a number of years while living in Prinveille and Pendleton. During her years of real estate, she was honored with numerous awards and well as serving as the president of the Real- tors Land Institute, which Milton-Freewater Oct. 9, 1934-March 25, 2016 Gary P. Seibold While Bud was involved with the Cattleman’s Association, Beth stayed involved as a vice president of the American Cowbelles. She participated in many cook-offs and demonstra- tions for Fred Meyer. Beth was a four-time winner of the Gilliam County Fair Home Economics award. This award was achieved by entering every county fair, cooking, clothing, knitting DQG ÀRZHU DUUDQJLQJ competition for that partic- ular year. Beth was a member and donor of both the Oregon Humane Society as well as a member of the National Humane Society. Many cats and dogs for the ranch came from the humane society in Portland. Survivors include daughter Sandie Maki and her husband Lou of Wilson- ville; son Blair Philippi of Boardman; grandchildren Torrie Griggs and her husband Donney, Blake Philippi and his wife Kara, Allaire Rosenthal and her husband Ben and Chris Maki and his wife Kelsey; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. For a few years, Ann ran the Silver Saddle in Pendleton. After running the restaurant, she moved to Heppner to be near her son and his family. Ann loved spending time with her family and watching her kids’, then grandkids’ involvement in sports, 4-H, FFA and any other activity. She was an avid seamstress DQG HQMR\HG JRO¿QJ LQ KHU later years. Ann was a member of the Pendleton and Heppner Elks Lodge, Pendleton Eagles Lodge, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner. Survivors include her daughter Carrie (Joe-de- ceased) Bennett of Pend- leton; sons Jay Gibbs (Sue) of Heppner and Kenny (Chris) Gibbs of Hermiston; sister Mary M. Fitzgerald; brothers Robert Williams, Kevin D. Williams and A. Mathew Williams; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Arlington Cemetery. She was born May 5, 1920, in Elmira, New York, to J. Blair and Helen Havens Miller. Her family moved to 2UHJRQ ZKHQ VKH ZDV ¿YH where her father put in the ¿UVWHOHFWULFDOJULGDORQJWKH Oregon coast and mountain ranges. Beth Graduated from OSU in 1942 with two degrees, one in home economics and the other in art. Both degrees were used throughout her life as a homemaker and artist. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She married R J “Bud” Philippi Dec. 26, 1944, in the chapel on the naval base at Corpus Christi, Texas, where Bud was stationed at the end of the war. For nine years Beth was a 4-H leader in clothing and was an OSU Extension leader. She taught many girls including her daughter to sew. The clothing club received many awards. Later in life most of the girls continued sewing; one in particular makes wedding dresses and upholsters furniture as a part-time hobby. Beth was asked to judge 4-H clothing at many county fairs.
