RECORDS Tuesday, March 8, 2016 East Oregonian PUBLIC SAFETY LOG OBITUARIES FRIDAY SATURDAY 12:11 a.m. - A caller reported vehicles racing at 80-90 mph on Diagonal Boulevard and North Ott Road, Hermiston. 12:28 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of residents on Southeast 10th Street screaming and hitting each other. 12:57 a.m. - A woman reported a man was helping her husband move belongings to a Stan¿eld storage shed when police arrested her husband and the helper then took her things. She also said she called and texted him but he replied she was harassing him. 1:20 a.m. - A caller from Wallace Drilling, 3103 S. Ott Road, Hermiston, reported an employee’s girlfriend may have stolen another employee’s laptop computer. 1:50 a.m. - A Umatilla woman told police her ex-boyfriend kicked in her door on Tyler Avenue and she forced him out. She called police at 9:55 a.m. and reported someone slashed tires on her vehicle. 4:13 a.m. - A woman told police someone was trying to break into her house on Southwest Sixth Street, Pendleton. 4:18 a.m. - An Irrigon woman on South First Street reported a theft of guns. 10:56 a.m. – A local wheat farmer and attorney reported the theft of a brown 1989 *0C full-si]e crew cab pickup from the area of 75000 Stage Gulch Road, Pendleton. 11:57 a.m. - A member of the 0orrow County Sheriff’s Of¿ce gave a man a ride home after a caller reported walking by a man who didn’t move while on the ground behind the car wash on the 100 block of Southwest Front Street, Boardman. 1:27 p.m. - A male and female stole a black 2000 Chevrolet 3/4-ton pickup from a home on Highway 334, Pendleton. 4:10 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Of¿ce received another call about the dead dog in an orange sleeping bag where Birch Creek Road, 0ilton-Freewater, crosses the Walla Walla River. 4:22 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Of¿ce received a report of a poached elk on Highway 37 off Nelson Creek near Pendleton. 4:29 p.m. - Barking dogs prompted action from a Heppner man. He told the 0orrow County Sheriff’s Of¿ce the dogs bark day and night at a man’s house on Southeast Gilmore Street, so he took video of the barking at different times of the day over three weeks. He said he would like someone to quiet the dogs and did not need to talk to a deputy. 7:39 p.m. - A Pendleton resident extinguished an illegal burn on South 0ain Street, Pendleton. 9 p.m. - One heavy set male and one slimmer male damaged a bathroom at Crossroads Truck Stop, 2020 Highway 730, Umatilla, before leaving in a gray Honda Accord with Washington plates. 9:02 p.m. - A driver reported someone on the Goad Road overpass threw items onto Interstate 84, Pendleton, which hit her vehicle, though it may not have caused damaged. 9:47 - A caller from (astern Oregon Correctional Institution, Pendleton, reported seeing someone in a “ha]mat suit” walk on the railroad tracks near the prison. 11:42 p.m. - Someone in a slow-going vehicle shined a spotlight on houses on Powerline Road, Hermiston. SUNDAY 12:50 a.m. - Police looked for but did not ¿nd a possibly intox- icated male who stood on planters at 0ain Street 0arket, 255 S. 0ain St., Stan¿eld, and dodged in and out of traf¿c. 1:23 a.m. - Residents on West Hermiston Avenue, Hermiston, woke up and called 9-1-1 because three males fought in a front yard. 2 a.m. - A woman reported someone shot out her window and then a vehicle left at 9ista 0obile Home Park, 1800 N.(. 10th St., Hermiston, 8:12 a.m. - A caller complained to Pendleton police about 10-12 members of the downtown CrossFit gym running westbound in the middle of Dorion Avenue, which is a one-way street eastbound. 8:50 a.m. - Two Doberman Pinschers attempted to attack a man on Southwest 12th Drive, Pendleton, as he got into his vehicle. 11:16 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a male riding a bike and pulling what looks like a covered wagon in the middle of downtown 0ain Street. 11:55 a.m. - A Boardman woman reported someone attacked her the previous night and took her pills, wallet, purse and more. 1:52 p.m. - A father told the 0orrow County Sheriff’s Of¿ce his 16-year-old daughter reported her mother’s boyfriend pushed her and the mother near Heppner, and the mother hit her head but seemed ¿ne. The daughter, though, wanted to speak to a deputy. 3:29 p.m. - A Pendleton mother told police a male has been harassing her and threatening her daughter on Facebook. 5:47 p.m. - A guest at 0otel 6, 325 S.(. Nye Ave., Pendleton, tried to kick down a door. 6:12 p.m. - The 0orrow County Sheriff’s Of¿ce checked into a possible case of a felon in possession of a weapon. 7:37 p.m. - Pendleton police received a request from the police department of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, to help ¿nd a person connected to an attempted homicide case. Police did not ¿nd the person in the area. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Friday Pendleton police arrested Christine G. Richardson, 26, of Walla Walla, on a warrant and for possession of methamphetamine. Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested Jason Arthur Butler, 42, of Pendleton, for two counts each of harassment, disorderly conduct, assault, menacing and recklessly endangering another, all misdemeanors. Hermiston police arrested Noe Calderon Sanche], 22, of Hermiston, for second-degree assault and on a warrant for failure to appear. Oregon State Police cited a 16-year-old Pendleton girl for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana while under the age of 21. Saturday Pendleton police arrested Richard L. Bohna, 26, of 62441 0c(lligot Road, Ione, for duii. Oregon State Police arrested Travis Andrew Clack, 22, of Umatilla, for duii. Oregon State Police at 7:57 p.m. received a report of a denial of a gun buy at Hodgen Handguns, 71620 Valley View Drive, Pendleton. A trooper responded and cited Drew William Tachella, 40, of Pendleton, for false swearing and unlawful purchase of a ¿rearm. An Oregon State Police trooper caught two racers for going more than 100 mph. Trooper 0arcus Burt was observing traf¿c on Interstate 84 at milepost 200 a few miles east of Pendleton when two vehicles at 8:24 p.m. ]oomed by. The ¿rst, a two-door Volkswagen, was going 100 mph, according to state police, and the second, a Dodge pickup, was at 117. The trooper chased, and the driver in the Volkswagen hit the brakes in front of the pickup, nearly causing a crash. The trooper stopped the car and waved for the pickup to stop, but it did not. The trooper, though, later caught up with that driver. Abdula]i] Alqasimi, 25 of Boise, drove the Volkswagen, and Jordon Travis Beckley, 22, of Hermiston, drove the Dodge. The trooper cited both for driving faster than 100 mph, and gave an additional ticket to Alqasimi for reckless driving. Sunday Hermiston police arrested Jaime 0oras Nava, 26, of Paterson, Washington, for driving under the inÀuence of intoxicants, reckless driving and on a warrant for failure to appear. Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested Joel Daniel Simpson, 54, of Pendleton, for second-degree disorderly conduct, assaulting a public safety of¿cer and resisting arrest. 0ilton-Freewater police arrested Don Douglas Lovell, 50, of 703 Washington St., 0ilton-Freewater, for duii. Robert Milton ‘Bob’ Brown Grace R. Sallee Hermiston May 31, 1928-February 25, 2016 Milton-Freewater February 9, 1925-March 6, 2016 Robert “Bob” Milton Brown, age 87, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016, after three days of hospitaliza- tion at Good Shep- herd Medical Center followed by a short stay in Sun Terrace Assisted Living with Hospice Care. Bob was born May 31, 1928, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Raymond C. Brown and Goldie P. (Sparks) Brown. The family soon moved to La Grande and later to a farm in Irrigon. When Bob was Brown in lower grade school, his father nearly lost an arm when dragged through a barbed wire fence by a runaway horse. Bob’s parents later divorced, and he and his sister Jean lived with their mother, step- father Floyd Provancha and VWHSVLVWHUV¿UVWLQWKH(XJHQH area and then various places and states picking crops. This resulted in attending many different schools each year. In 1941, from Twin Falls, Idaho, the family moved back to the farm in Irrigon, which was owned by Bob’s Grandfather Sparks. It was in Irrigon that he met future wife Ellen Fraser, who moved there from Idaho in 1942, since her father had started work the year before at the Umatilla Ordnance Depot. Bob graduated in 1947 from Irrigon High School and started classes that fall at Eastern Oregon College in La Grande, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later a master’s degree. During the years at Eastern Oregon College, he served in the National Guard. Bob managed Hermiston’s Head Start summer program during some years between 1951-1983 when he was an elementary teacher in Hermiston School District #8. Various grade levels were taught at West Park, Rocky Heights, and Highland Hills. While at West Park School, he was a Boy Scout leader from students in high school. Until Bob’s rapid decline in health, which included a painful inoperable spine and shoulders, he was able to be an active member for First Christian Church. Bob’s hobbies/ special interests LQFOXGHG ¿VKLQJ with friends and IDPLO\ À\LQJ camping; hiking and backpacking, especially in the Wallowa Mountains and Mount Rainier; climbing Mt. Hood in 1974 with wife Ellen and son Daryl; operating a small sailboat in the 1980s; learning Morse Code and becoming a ham operator; bow-hunting with friends; Boy Scout leader (high school age); doing woodworking, building and installing cabinets and workbenches in the garage and shop; doing photography; and being an avid reader. Bob survived by wife Ellen; daughter Vickie Hartley; son Daryl Brown; six grandchildren: Jeff (Astri) Brown, Matt (Leslie) Brown, Scott Brown, Eric Brown, Angela Hartley and Jason Hartley; daughters-in-law Peggy Brown and Sue Brown; sister Jean Pinney; stepsister Patty Smith; and several cousins. Preceding Bob in death were his parents, stepfather Floyd Provancha, stepsisters Mary Joyce, Donna and Barbara; and his son Gary. John Clifford Lovell John Clifford Lovell was born June 28, 1950, in Roseburg, Oregon, to parents Donald Clifford and Mary Hermine (Laughlin) Lovell. He died at his home in Pendleton, Oregon, on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the age of 65. -RKQOLYHGEULHÀ\ in Eugene and Echo, Oregon, before his family moved to Pendleton. He grad- uated from Pend- leton High School in 1968, and graduated from Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande in 1973. John worked Lovell for the US Forest Service in the late 1970s as a civil engineering technician. In the early 1980s John worked at the Eastern Oregon Hospital & Training Center as a psychi- atric aide. John also worked for the Blue Mountain Economic Development Council as an energy program coordinator IRU D ¿YHFRXQW\ DUHD LQ Eastern Oregon. In the early 1990s he returned to the U.S. Forest Service as a forestry technician. John worked EULHÀ\ LQ WKH ODWH V ZLWK the Foster Grandparents and Grace R. Sallee, Milton-Freewater, Oregon, passed away March 6, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 91 years. Graveside services will be Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memo- rial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home. Grace was born on the family cattle ranch February 9, 1925, in Yocum, Oregon, the daughter of John R. and Laura Johnson Bond. She was the third of three daughters. Grace’s family moved to Cove, Oregon, where she graduated from Cove High School in 1943. She joined her Sallee sister in Portland, Oregon, where she worked for the Oregonian news- paper. She married the love of her life, Henry L. Sallee, on October 17, 1946. The couple raised their four boys on the ranch on Cricket Flat in Elgin, Oregon. After selling the ranch, the family moved to Milton-Freewater and purchased the Chev- rolet dealership. Grace and her family operated Sallee Chevrolet from 1973 until retiring in 2006. Mr. Sallee preceded her in death on November 15, 1989. Grace loved the outdoors all of her life, riding horses, gardening, overcoming all the challenges of ranching and raising four boys. She then readily adapted to the automobile business, success- fully handling all accounting and business activities of Sallee Chev- rolet. She enjoyed her retirement, reading books and watching golf on television. She especially enjoyed family events and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Grace is survived by four sons and their spouses: Joe and Diane Sallee of Addy, Wash., Robert and Sherry Sallee of Milton-Freewater, Ore., Foster and Marie Sallee of Walla Walla, Wash., and Tom and Peggy Sallee of Colbert, Wash.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great niece, and two great-great- nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. He played soccer at Eastern Oregon State College and then later on many city club teams. He enjoyed watching the junior high and high school soccer teams, and was glad to see soccer gaining popularity in the United States. He also enjoyed the RXWGRRUV KXQWLQJ ¿VKLQJ backpacking, mushroom picking, and camping. John is survived by his wife Roxi of Pendleton, Oregon, and his sister Donna Lovell of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Paul Scott Lovell. The Umatilla County Sheriff¶s Of¿ce is investigating. 4:56 p.m. — The owner of a Pendleton house on the 300 block of Southwest Court Avenue told police a male and female who he did not allow on the property both pulled their pants down as if they were going to urinate. 10:22 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of people with Àashlights in the First United 0ethodist Church, 325 S.(. Second St. 10:23 p.m. - High school-aged drivers sped through a parking lot at Community Park, 1200 S.W. 44th St., Pendleton, to try and “jump” the speed bumps.
