On Tuesday night 27 staff members worked for two hours at the Hermiston McDonald’s, making ice cream sundaes, taking orders and bringing food out to customers. In return the school got to keep 15 SHUFHQW RI WKH SUR¿WV SOXV all tips. The previous sales record for a McTeacher’s Night in the northwest region was $5,200. Rocky Heights teachers sold $5,416 in food orders. That, combined with $644 in tips, gave the school $1,456 to support extracurricular activities. The staff also broke the store record of 177 for the number of ice cream sundaes sold by selling 258 in a two-hour window Tuesday night. Principal Jarad Farley said the staff had a good time helping out with the FRQVWDQWÀRRGRIFXVWRPHUV that came through the door. They had a few humorous moments, including when a teacher accidentally locked herself in the store’s walk-in freezer and had to text someone to let her out. The money raised through the event will go to help students in need pay for participation in enrichment activities, such as purchasing a recorder for their music class or paying the fees to join a sports team. Ervie Lynn Tippett, age 70, of Pendleton, Ore., and formerly from Clarkston, ended his journey in this life February 7, 2016, in Bend, Ore., surrounded by family members, who lovingly let him go. He was born March 9, 1945, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Jack W. Tippett and Blanche (Apple- ford) Tippett. Erv grew up on a family cattle ranch located in the Hells Canyon area of Asotin County, living and working with his Tippett parents and siblings in an environment that was very tough and rugged by today’s standards. He attended a one-room school house on Joseph Creek with six other students. When the oldest students completed the eighth grade, the school was closed and all students then attended public school in Clarkston or Asotin, nearly a 30-mile trip from the ranch. Erv graduated from Charles Francis Adams High School in Clarkston in 1963. He then attended Columbia Basin Junior College until he was drafted into the Army in the fall of 1965. Erv served his country honorably with a tour of duty in Vietnam, the emotional effects of which would linger with him the rest of his life in the form of PTSD; something that most of his family couldn’t even comprehend until just recently. In 1971, Erv graduated from WSU with a degree in agriculture. He then returned to the family cattle ranch for a short time until the ranch was sold in 1974. Erv was employed by the Federal Land Bank in Pend- leton, Ore., for a number of years, and thereafter worked in real estate and assisted his brother-in-law and nephews on their farm during the farming season. One of Erv’s passions was volunteering as a worker at the annual Pend- leton Round-Up, where he sometimes endured the wrath of a runaway bovine (Brahma bull). He also enjoyed spending time with friends and his family, including assisting in the care of our beloved parents, and he was an avid WSU fan. Erv is survived by his mother Blanche Tippett of Clarkston; daughter Kellie (Nathan) Pingle of Bend, Ore.; son Greg of Kingsville, Texas; brothers Wayne (Diana) of Clarkston, Tim (Marlene) of Pasco and Tom (Linda) of Pullman; and a sister, Jane (Jim) Smith of Burbank, Wash. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Jeanie Eberle of Bend, Ore., who stood by his side until the end. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Erv was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his father Jack. A Celebration of Life service is planned for March 5, 2016, at the Asotin County Fairgrounds Bennett Building in Asotin, Wash., at 11:00 a.m. followed by a BBQ lunch in his honor. The family is so very appreciative of the care that was provided by the medical team at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore., and particularly the end of life comfort and care that was provided by the Hospice House of Partners in Care.
