Chester Minthorn, 19, Pend- leton, is being held in the Umatilla County Jail charged with hit-run. He told deputies the car he was driving was moving more than 70 miles an hour when it brushed the side of a car coming from the other direction, toward Pendleton. That car was driven by Joe Craig, Cayuse. Craig’s speed was estimated at at least 40 miles an hour. Sheriff’s deputy Bill McPherson said he found the alleged hit-run vehicle near Mission and arrested Minthorn and three juveniles, including two girls, who were charged with being minors in possession of alcoholic beverages. 25 Years Ago From the East Oregonian Feb. 6-7, 1991 Tuesday was “Jeanne Hughes Day” in both Pendleton and Umatilla County, and about 65 people gathered for a no-host luncheon to honor the former county commissioner from Pendleton. “It’s good to be recognized while you’re still here,” Hughes told the crowd. Hughes served on the commission from April 1985 to December 1990. She has worked on the Area Agency on Aging advisory council, League of Women Voters, county courthouse clock tower project and formation of the Umatilla County Special Library District.
