BRIEFLY PSD to consider minor change to school boundaries Desert Rose to discuss plans for homeless shelter PENDLETON — Pendleton School District Assistant Superintendent Tricia Mooney will recommend to the Pendleton School Board that the new school boundaries undergo a minor alteration. Mooney said the district has received de¿nitive numbers regarding next year’s ¿rst grade population and will alter the border between McKay Creek and Sherwood Heights elementary schools to ensure McKay Creek has only two classes per grade. The district recently redrew elementary school boundaries to accommodate the closures of Lincoln Primary School and West Hills Intermediate School. Over the summer, Lincoln and West Hills will be converted to the district’s central of¿ce and a career technical education center, respectively. The board will consider Mooney’s recommendation at its Monday meeting. HERMISTON — Desert Rose Ministries is continuing plans for a homeless shelter. A committee of area residents has been established to seek a suitable location for a shelter and there is a building that is being strongly considered for that purpose. In addition, a budget committee has been created for the endeavor. For more information about House of Hope, there’s a meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at 512 E. Main St., Hermiston. Jason Estle, pastor at Desert Rose, encourages anyone interested to attend the monthly meetings. As a way to reach out to the community, the church is open Monday through Saturdays from 7-11 a.m., offering coffee, tea, oatmeal and noodles, and from 3-6 p.m. with soup, bread and coffee.
