Barron Leland ‘Dean’ Bush Pendleton January 5, 1929-September 27, 2015 Hermiston November 8, 1934-September 27, 2015 Hermiston Nov. 3, 1927-Sept. 28, 2015 Lorene Rion, a long-time Pendleton resident, was born on January 5, 1929, in Dela- ware County, Oklahoma, to Chester and Julie Sallie (Lunderman) Crowder. She passed away peacefully due to natural causes at Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Herm- iston, Oregon, on Sunday, September 27, 2015. She was 86 years old. Lorene gradu- ated from Wyan- dotte High School in 1947. She came to Pendleton shortly after graduation in 1947. She met her best friend, Edwin Rion (Ed) Rion, in Pend- leton in 1949, and they were married in Walla Walla, Washington, May 26, 1950. Lorene worked for Pend- leton School District in the school lunch program for 10 years after her children started school. She was always home each and every day before the school bus arrived and was able to be at home during the summer and anytime that there was a school holiday. Lorene prided herself in having the best garden and the prettiest ÀRZHUVRQVW6WUHHWZKHUH the Rion family lived for 52 years. She told a story of a little neighborhood girl that would stop and tell her KRZSUHWW\KHUÀRZHUVZHUH and then when no one was looking, would pick the ÀRZHUV DQG EULQJ WKHP WR mom because they were so pretty. Lorene loved to go FDPSLQJ ¿VKLQJ DQG ZDWHU VNLLQJ ¿UVW LQ D WHQW graduating to a camper and pickup and then moved it on up to their motor home. Even with all of the luxuries in their motor home, she could only be gone for just so long from her home. No matter what, home is where she always wanted to be. Thanks to the unwavering and loving care provided by my brother Steve for many, many years, she was able to be in her home until the week before she passed away. Without Steve’s devotion, this would not have been possible. Lorene is survived by her children Steve Rion in Pend- leton, and Karen Morthland (Kent) in Boise, Idaho; grandchildren 0LFKHOOH :DVPXQG ¿DQFp Jim Sayko), Nampa, Idaho, Melissa (Eric) Bollar, Johnstown, Colorado, Ryan (Carrie) Morthland, Boise, Idaho, and Sean (Leslie) Morthland, Boise, Idaho; and great-grandchildren Austin Wasmund, Nampa, Idaho, Addilyn Morthland, Boise, Idaho, and Finn Bollar, Johnstown, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, who passed away in 1989, her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Barron of Hermiston, Oregon, was born on November 8, 1934, in Richland, Oregon, to parents George Elmer Blank and Fannie May Coston Blank. She died on September 27, 2015, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 80 years. Shirley was raised and attended school in Richland, Oregon, graduating from Eagle Valley High School in the class of 1952. She married Milton A. Barron on August 17, 1957, in Reno, Nevada. They traveled throughout the West with Barron Milton working on construction proj- ects. They settled in Herm- iston, Oregon, in 1965 where they raised their family and have lived since. Shirley was active in FFA and very supportive of her children and grandchildren in their school, activities and sports endeavors. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, going on walks, and her time with grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Milt Barron, Herm- iston, Ore.; sons Gregory Barron and wife Carma, Irrigon, Ore., Kipp Barron, Umatilla, Ore., Jason Barron and wife Mindy, Hermiston, Ore., and Keith Howard and wife Teresa, Florida; daugh- ters Kathie Wilkerson and husband Mark, Pendleton, Ore., Tami Watson and husband Mark, Umatilla, Ore., Joan Reese and husband Timothy, Ritter, Ore., and Anita Baumgart and husband David, Irrigon, Ore.; brother Maxson Henry, Baker City, Ore.; sister Joanne Severs, Ashland, Ore.; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchil- dren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, daugh- ter-in-law Kimberly Barron, brother Alvin Blank, and grandson Matthew Barron. Each student was awarded a $500 scholarship. According to Jack McWhin- nie, a member of the chapter’s scholarship committee, the money for the scholarships comes from the chapter’s annual fall “Pig Out” dinner and auction. In addition to the scholarship, money raise from the event helps a variety of other local causes the chap- ter supports in the community.
