THURSDAY, JULY 9 CONKLIN, ELAINE — Graveside “going home” service at 11 a.m. at Olney Cemetery, Pendleton. FAULKNER, BETTY — Funeral services at 10 a.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater. Concluding services and interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. •Pendleton police at 6:50 a.m. took a report about the theft of a United States Àag from Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge 922, 1221 S.E. Court Place. The theft happened between 5-6 p.m. Saturday, the Fourth of July. •A Weston resident at 8:10 a.m. reported the theft of a .357 Magnum and brown leather holster. The caller could not provide the gun’s serial number. •Something chased a Milton-Freewater man’s cattle during the night and killed a calf. The man reported the incident at 8:50 a.m. and said two calves ran through a fence on his property on West Ferndale Road and others hid in the barn. And the culprit gutted and defaced one calf. The livestock owner said he already buried the carcass. •A Pendleton of¿cer at 10:14 a.m. checked into a report at Homestead Apartments, 516 N.W. Bailey Ave., of a strong odor from a residence because of several cats living there. •A Weston man at 11:26 a.m. reported a conÀict with a neighbor on Meadowood Road. His dog and the neighbor’s dog bark at each other, and the neighbor Monday morning rode his four-wheeler near the property line, upsetting the caller’s dog, which broke from his chain. •A Milton-Freewater woman at 11:55 a.m. reported someone stole $5,000 in jewelry from a friend’s storage shed and now someone is selling the jewelry on the Internet auction site eBay. •A Pendleton of¿cer a little before 2 p.m. looked into code violations for overgrown weeds and solid waste at 302, 306 and 310 S.W. 18th St., which all have the same owner. The of¿cer also checked on reports of overgrown weeds on Southwest Goodwin Avenue. •A caller at 2:09 p.m. reported someone on Sunquist Road, Milton-Freewater, is operating a puppy mill. The caller bought one of the puppies, which was Àea-ridden and emaciated. •An employee of a real estate business at 2:10 p.m. told Umatilla police someone barricaded foreclosed property on Cherry Street and contractors cannot get onto the property. •A caller at 2:33 p.m. reported someone in the last four or ¿ve hours smashed his vehicle’s back window at the West Umatilla Vector Control, 3005 S. First St., Hermiston. •A Milton-Freewater man at 2:50 p.m. reported he loaned his vehicle to an acquaintance on Friday, but the person has yet to return it. •The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Of¿ce warned a person after a caller at 4:02 p.m. reported someone in a red pickup with an Oregon license plate dumped yard debris at Schroeder and Coombs Canyon roads, Pendleton. •A caller at 7:55 p.m. complained to Pendleton police about a man making too much noise while building a fence at Wild Rose RV Park, 1500 S.E. Byers Ave. •A caller at 10:36 p.m. reported a sidewalk was on ¿re on Sonesta Street, Umatilla. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested Joleen Ceci Hart, 34, of Pendleton, for fourth-degree assault, reckless endangering, four counts of violating a restraining order and three counts of contempt of court. •Stan¿eld police arrested David Wayne Newton, 52, of Hermiston, for possession of methamphetamine and failure to pay ¿nes. Pendleton October 17, 1929-July 2, 2015 Elaine Irene (Martindale) Conklin, age 85, of Pend- leton, Oregon, went home to be with the Lord after succumbing to illness on July 2, 2015. She was born on October 17, 1929, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to the late Everett Conway Martindale and Irene Rachel (Grabow) Martin- dale. Elaine attended school in Beloit, Wisconsin; Renton, Wa s h i n g t o n ; and La Grande, Oregon. In mid-life she attended college and earned two diplomas. She married Conklin the late Robert Elmer Conklin on December 26, 1946, in La Grande, Oregon. They were blessed with three children who survive them: Victoria Lee (Conklin) Dawes, Sacramento, California; Robert Eugene Conklin, Hermiston, Oregon; and Diana Jean (Conklin) Grider, Fairland, Indiana. During their marriage they would make their home in a number of places which included: La Grande, Milton-Freewater, Roseburg and Pendleton, Oregon; Walla Walla, Clarkston, and Spokane, Washington; Beloit, Wisconsin, and San Diego, California. Elaine was predeceased by her brother Leland Everett Martindale. She is survived by her sister, Helen Mae (Martindale) Goetzman, Beloit, Wisconsin, and her brother, Bruce Conway (Sandy) Martindale, Beloit, Wisconsin. Elaine is also survived by 11 grandchil- dren; 10 great-grandchil- dren; a number of nieces and nephews, with special mention of her nephew Gordon Goetzman and his wife Lisa (Grischkowsky) Goetzman, who selÀessly gave of themselves to help her in many ways. Special recognition to her handyman/gardener/care- giver, Carlos Fuentes, Pend- leton, Oregon, who helped her tremendously, making her last few years dealing with illness more bearable. In addition to raising three chil- dren, Elaine was employed at The Pendleton Woolen Mills and various hospitality service/ management posi- tions during her working years. A recognized beauty, she was full of life with an unforgettable personality and many talents. Clothing design and construction, gold dredging and jewelry design, traveling with her late husband to ¿nd beau- tiful works of collectible art, and being surrounded by beauty were a few of her many passions. She loved animals and helped with Cat Rescue to manage the growing cat population. Those who met her would be left with a memorable impression, and those who knew her will remember her effervescent personality and over-the-top enthusiasm for ¿lling nearly every moment with something productive! Elaine will be sorely missed by family and friends and there will be a graveside “going home” service at Olney Cemetery, Pendleton, Oregon at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015.
