Kern Lyle Picknell Derald Eugene Lacey Pendleton January 9, 1947-May 23, 2015 May 14, 1929-May 18, 2015 Kern Lyle Picknell was born in Prineville Oregon, on January 9, 1947, and passed away on May 23, 2015, in Walla Walla after a brief illness. A memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015, in a meadow at 69609 Poverty Flats Road, Pend- leton, Exit #224 off of I-84. He was the third of four children born to Stanley and Lucille (Duncan) Picknell. He lived in Powell Butte and graduated from Picknell Elkton, Oregon, high school, and received an accounting degree from Oregon State University. His studies were interrupted by service in the Navy where he was an elec- tronics technician and served at Navy station off the coast of Vietnam, in Thailand and Okinawa. He later served in the Navy Reserves and the National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Following graduation, Kern worked for the Oregon Department of Revenue. He had a choice of working in Astoria or Pendleton and he opted for the dry side of the state, moving to Pendleton in 1975. After 20-plus years, he retired from the Department of Revenue and RSHQHGKLVRZQWD[RI¿FH After some time, he sold Fossil his business and moved to Seattle where he worked in the tax software industry. In 1988, Kern met the love of his life, Laura Holt, through work. After a long courtship, they married on August 13, 2000. Kern was a life- long avid reader. As a young boy, he ¿OOHGKLVDUPVIURP ¿QJHUWLSV WR FKLQ with books from the Book Mobile. He loved his dogs, living in the country, spending time with his brothers, tinkering with computers and traveling. He was easy-going, generous, kind-hearted, and loyal. As a loving son, he purchased a home for his parents to live in during their retirement years. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Holt; sister Nancy Picknell; brothers Timm Picknell and Lee Picknell; nieces and nephew and the family he gained through marriage. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.pioneerchapel.com Lucile Urey Peck Derald Eugene Lacey died May 18th, 2015, at the Haven House Retirement Center in Fossil, Oregon, of natural causes at the age of 86. Derald was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, on May 14, 1929, to Paul and Mabel Lacey. He had no siblings. Derald gradu- ated in 1946 from Pendleton High School. He met his wife, Lavonne, at Woolworth’s in Lacey Pendleton, Oregon, where they both worked. Derald and Lavonne married on August 3, 1950, and had three children: Diana Marie Lapp (1952), Kathleen Ann Bezinover (1954-2010), and Andrew Warren Lacey (1961). Derald worked for the U.S. Forest Service at Ukiah, Oregon, in 1950-1951 as a lookout. He went on to work for the State of Oregon (PSOR\PHQW 2I¿FH LQ Madras, Oregon. He then worked for the U.S. Gypsum in Pilot Rock, Oregon, during the 1960s, and was self-employed doing janito- rial work during the 1970s and 1980s. He also worked for The Oregonian for many years, delivering newspapers to outlying areas around Pendleton. He served as treasurer for the United Meth- odist Church in Pendleton in 1970s and early 1980s. After moving to Fossil in 1985, Derald was active in the community, espe- cially with the creation Lexington April 1, 1921-May 9, 2015 Lucile Urey Peck passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015, in Heppner, Oregon, at the age of 94. A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Heppner Christian Church. She was born on April 1, 1921, at Weiser, Idaho, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Orcutt Urey. When Lucile was two years old, her family moved to Eugene, Oregon, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended the University of Oregon where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority; Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University); and earned her Bachelors of Arts degree at Marylhurst College. Lucile taught elementary school in Prineville, Portland and Eugene during World War II. She married Clinton Kenneth Peck in Seattle in 1943. After the war, they moved to the Peck farm near Lexington, Oregon. She became an enthusiastic farm wife and was always proud of their farming accomplish- ments. She taught school for many years in Heppner. Her interest included painting, sewing, genealogy, reading and writing. She spent many hours skiing with her family and she enjoyed playing golf. In 1980 at age 59 she earned her private pilot’s license. Lucile was a member of Bookworms (book club), Eastern Star, and the Church of Christ. She served on the Morrow County Medical Board and the Heppner Library Board. She is survived by her husband Clinton K. “Ken” Peck of Lexington; son Stephen K. Peck and Kaye Peck of Walla Walla, Wash- ington; daughter Martha Peck Andrews and James Andrews, Portland, Oregon; brother Bruce Urey and Kelly Urey of Vida, Oregon; ¿YH JUDQGFKLOGUHQ -HQQLIHU Peck Dobson, Christopher P. Terry was born February 20, 1947, in Enterprise, Ore. Shortly after, he moved to Weston, Ore., where he spent the greater part of his life. Terry was very proud of his six years of service to the Air Force as a staff sergeant in Thailand during and management of Haven House. He served on the Board of Directors of Haven House for approximately ten years. He was a loving, supportive and steadfast husband and father, who enjoyed music, reading, minia- ture railroading, gardening and tent camping. Derald is survived by his son, Andrew Lacey and his wife Janel of Pendleton, Oregon, and his daughter Diana Lapp and her husband Fred Duerr of Newport, Oregon. Derald also leaves ¿YHJUDQGFKLOGUHQ$GULHQQH Lapp, Jessica Lapp, Nicholas Lacey and John Ryan Lacey, all of Pendleton, Oregon, and Candace Camarillo of Portland, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lavonne, and his daughter Kathleen. Derald was buried in a private graveside service for close friends and family on Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Fossil, Oregon.
