Nov. 30, 1929-March 3, 2015 •Pilot Rock police at 12:25 a.m. received a call about four males breaking into the Pilot Rock Market, 168 N.W. Birch St. The caller said they entered the store and then ran down a side street carrying a grocery bag. •A Weston resident at 2:15 a.m. reported hearing people prowl around the outside of his house on East Cherry Street. •An Irrigon caller at 3:19 p.m. reported he read in a news- paper about someone trying to dump items into the Columbia River and he may know who that was. •An employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Pendleton, told police at 3:37 p.m. a dog bit a postal carrier at about 1 p.m. on Northwest Sixth Street. He also said the carrier would be DYDLODEOHWRWDONWRSROLFHDWWKHSRVWRI¿FHDIWHUSP $+HOL[UHVLGHQWDWSPUHSRUWHGWZRKXQWLQJGRJV attacked her on Vancycle Road and one bit her calf and broke the skin. She declined an ambulance, said she may go to a KRVSLWDODQGLGHQWL¿HGWKHRZQHURIWKHGRJV $/H[LQJWRQPDQDWSPUHSRUWHGWKHZRPDQOLYLQJ with him was destroying his house and threatening to kill them both. A dispatcher heard her screaming. The caller said the woman took a whole bottle of medication for her broken arm. Law enforcement took a report. •A woman in the Milton-Freewater area at 5:52 p.m. reported WKDW¿YHGD\VDJRVKHVHQWWRDSHUVRQLQ.QRWW Ave., Buena Park, California, so she could claim a prize from Publisher’s Clearing House. This was a scam, and the woman said she wanted to talk to a Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy. •A man at 6:29 p.m. reported he hired a person named “Randy” to work on his car a year ago, and now Randy claimed a gang stripped the car and he would have to call the police. The caller said when he asked more questions, Randy told him to quit the harassment. The caller said he thought Randy operated at a place on Couse Creek Road off of Walla Walla River Road near Milton-Freewater. 3ROLFHLQYHVWLJDWHGDSRVVLEOH¿JKWWKDWKDSSHQHGDWDERXW SPDW5RFNHW0DUW1)LUVW6W+HUPLVWRQ$SHUVRQ called 9-1-1 from a cellphone, and a dispatcher heard male voices and a struggle and was unable to communicate with caller. Louis “LD” Hunter of College Place, Washington, formerly of Milton-Free- water, Oregon, passed away May 4, 2015, at Regency at the Park in College Place at the age of 93 years. He was born January 30, 1922, in Willows, California. He resided in California, New Mexico and Colorado prior to being drafted by the Army in 1943. He served in New Guinea and the Philip- pines in World War II. Louis and Eva Lena were married in New Mexico in 1942. She and their son lived in Cali- fornia while he was serving in the Army. Lena worked in an aircraft assembly plant during the war. Shortly after the war, they moved to Pondosa, Oregon, where LD began his career in sawmill operations. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •A Lostine man is in the Umatilla County Jail after police suspected he tried to run his wife off the road. $\HDUROGZRPDQDWSPUHSRUWHGKHUKXVEDQG Ryan Eugene Coles, 35, tried to use his unloaded Peterbilt semi WRIRUFHKHU)RUGSLFNXSRIIWKHZHVWERXQGVLGHRI,QWHUVWDWH near milepost 231. Oregon State Police trooper Wesley Linhart reported the woman showed him the location, and he saw evidence consistent with her statement. Wesley also spoke with a witness who backed up the woman’s story, OSP trooper John Juzeler found Coles near milepost 259 RQ,DQGDUUHVWHGKLPIRUUHFNOHVVGULYLQJPHQDFLQJDQG recklessly endangering another person, all misdemeanors. &ROHVUHPDLQVLQWKH8PDWLOOD&RXQW\-DLOLQOLHXRI bail bond. •Milton-Freewater police arrested Tyler Jonathan Hays, 18, of 122 S.W. Ninth St., College Place, and Gregorio Diaz, 18, of 1(WK$YH0LOWRQ)UHHZDWHUIRUXQDXWKRUL]HGXVHRID vehicle, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. They remain in the Umatilla County Jail, 3HQGOHWRQLQOLHXRIEDLOERQG LD and Lena raised their family in Weston, Ore. They were members of the Umapine Seventh-day Adventist Church. Lena passed away in 2003. LD and Lena are survived by their ¿ve chil- dren: three sons, Ed, Louie and Vern, and two daughters, Ferriba Steadman and Wilma Ailinger; a sister, Wilma (Andy) Moore; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the exceptional care given to LD by the staff at Regency at the Park nursing home. The family would like donations to Walla Walla Community Hospice or Blue Mountain Television. A graveside service was held May 6 in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.
