Sept. 1, 1946-April 24, 2015 •A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy at 3:19 a.m. reported following a medium-sized gray and black dog pulling a 20-foot long log chain while running at Southeast Tenth Street and Utah Avenue, Irrigon. The dog then went into a back yard on the 500 block of Southeast Utah. About four hours later, a caller on the same street reported a dog tangled in a chain in his back yard. While the man was on WKHSKRQHWKHGRJOHIWDQGODZHQIRUFHPHQWZDVQRWDEOHWR¿QG it. $PDQDWDPWROGWKH8PDWLOOD&RXQW\6KHULII¶V2I¿FH he is concerned about a man he thinks regularly drives drunk on Tum A Lum Road, Milton-Freewater. •An Irrigon resident at 8:50 a.m. reported a neighbor has at least six chickens on Southeast Third Street, and that many chickens is a violation of city law. A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy contacted Irrigon City Hall, which reported someone can have up to 22 chickens. The deputy decided not to bother the chicken owner. •A Weston man at 9:48 a.m. reported someone is applying for credit cards using his identity and it could be an ex-girlfriend. •A caller at 10:28 a.m. asked to speak to Pendleton police DERXWSHRSOHGLJJLQJRXWURFNVIURPDZDOODW.H\$SSUDLVDO Realty Co., 225 S.E. Second St., Pendleton, and storing needles in the holes. •A Weston resident at 10:41 a.m. told the Umatilla County 6KHULII¶V2I¿FHVKHZDUQHGVRPHRQHZLWK/HJDO$LG6HUYLFHV of Oregon not to come on her property on Upper Dry Creek Road. The Legal Aid helper wanted to talk to one of the woman’s employees and came to the site, but the owner told her to leave because she was trespassing. •A caller at 11:37 a.m. reported someone slashed two of his tires in the parking lot of Stangier Auto Supply, 128 S.E. Second St., Pendleton. •A caller at 2:08 p.m. reported a theft that happened Sunday at the Irrigon Junior-Senior High School greenhouse, Irrigon. The caller said there were witnesses. •A sleeping driver at about 4:10 p.m. crashed a vehicle into a power pole between Eighth Street and Division Avenue, Irrigon. The impact was hard enough to deploy the car’s airbag. The driver also had bruises from the seat belt, but she turned down an ambulance ride to a hospital. Multiple agencies responded, including some to check on the pole. $QHPSOR\HHRI&DGLOODF-DFN¶V6DORRQ*ULOO6: Emigrant Ave., Pendleton, told police at 5:04 p.m. that lottery machine keys are missing. •A Pendleton caller at 8:36 p.m. told police to remove a ZRPDQIURPDUHVLGHQFHIRUKXI¿QJFRPSXWHUGXVWRIIVSUD\ •Umatilla police at 9:09 p.m. received a call from Lifeways Inc., 290 Willamette Ave., about a 40-year old client there who was in seclusion and still out of control in spite of medical injections. •A caller at 10:54 p.m. told Pendleton police someone slashed the tires of his vehicle in the parking lot of Shari’s 5HVWDXUDQW3LHV6(1\H$YH3HQGOHWRQ •Someone in a green Ford Ranger at about 11:15 p.m. may have dumped two washing machines and some tires into the Irrigon marina. A caller reported spotting the pickup and people on a boat ramp, but when they saw the caller, they left on Tenth 6WUHHW/DZHQIRUFHPHQWGLGQRW¿QGWKH)RUG Evelyn J. Gerard of Irrigon, Ore., was born on August 28, 1938, in Modesto, California, to parents Sherman and Opal Goad Whitbeck. She died on May 4, 2015, in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 76 years. Evelyn was raised in California until the early 1950s when her family moved to Hood River, Oregon. She married Walter E. “Walt” Gerard Sr. On December 1, 1955, in Stevenson, Washington. They moved to Irrigon, Oregon, in 1974 where they have Gerard lived since. Evelyn worked for Gourmet Brands in Boardman, Oregon, for nine years. She enjoyed gardening, watching her son race stock cars, and cherished her time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Walt Gerard, Irrigon, Ore.; son Walter Gerard Jr., Irrigon, Ore.; brothers Monte Whitbeck, Hermiston, Ore., and Jerry Whitbeck, The Dalles, Ore.; sister Peggy Bell, St. Helens, Ore.; grandchildren Jeremy, Rocky, Tiffany and Jasmine; great-grandchildren Hunter, Maylee and Jade; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Delma Gerard; son Roger Gerard; and brothers Teddy and Roger Whitbeck. Those who wish may make contri- butions in Evelyn’s memory to the American Cancer Society. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Irrigon, Oregon.
