But the callers told Umatilla County dispatchers they do not have a niece, and that is why they wanted to report this as a scam. The bogus call came from 1-760-705-8888 and that number is from Google Voice, an app that allows people to use the Internet to make free calls anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. •A Helix man at 12:52 p.m. reported a burglary and the theft of jewelry and guns sometime before 9:30 a.m. at his house on the 41000 block of Holdman Road. A caller at 5:30 p.m. re- ported he heard about the theft and on Wednesday saw a green Honda and red Dodge four- wheel drive and a man in his 50s that could have been “casing” the area. •Umatilla police at 1:18 p.m. received a report of a man assaulting a woman at Fairway South Apartments, 605 Umatilla Ave. •Pendleton police at 3:27 p.m. received a report that a fe- male attacked another female at Northwest Carden Avenue and Midco Lane, just below Pendle- ton High School. The assailant left toward the school, and the victim suffered a bloody lip. •A man at about 3:45 p.m. was spray painting his red and green Honda car on Sagebrush Road near Joy Lane, Hermiston. A caller said the man would drive the car a short distance, stop, get out, and spray paint again. She said she went out and wrote down his license plate number, and he became defensive and sped off. She also said there was a recent break-in at a neigh- bor’s house. •A mental health client assaulted another client at about 5:40 p.m. at Lifeways, 290 Willamette Ave., Umatilla. A staff member at 6:07 p.m. reported the assault to police, and that resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man. But what the verdict means remains a question. Pendleton Plumbing, owned and operated by Jeffery “J.T” Dooley and his wife Mi- chelle Dooley, sued Plute and his business interests for more than $61,000, claiming he had yet to pay for all the work the company did during a reno- vation from 2009-2012 at the St. George Plaza, a downtown Pendleton business and res- idential space. Plute’s Tem- ple Building Development, a limited liability company that owns the plaza, was also a defendant. Plute then count- er-sued the Dooleys, alleging fraud and misrepresentation. A jury in November 2014 sid- ed with Pendleton Plumbing. Well, sort of. Attorneys for both parties were back in court Wednesday afternoon in Pendleton and argued for more than two hours about just what the jury decided. Circuit Court Judge Lynn Hampton presided. Pendleton attorney Tim O’Hanlon argued for the plumbing company and the Dooleys that the jury found there was an unpaid balance of $61,111 and a reasonable person would deduce the jury wanted Plute to pay. Attorney Will Perkinson of Pendleton represented Plute and his interests and said not so fast. The jury verdict form was complicated, he said, and while the jury indeed found there was an unpaid balance, the jury did not actually say if anyone should pay it. Perkinson also pointed out the only people who could say what the verdict form means were the jurors, and if O’Hanlon had an objection to the verdict he needed to make it when the jury was in court. Once the jury leaves, he said, everyone must live with their ¿QGLQJV Both sides cited plenty of case law to back their as- sertions and interpretations, and Judge Hampton said she would sort through it all.
