Floch •A man at 7:25 a.m. reported a break-in and theft of several items from a shop in the 1300 block of Northeast Main Avenue, Irrigon. •A caller at 9:25 a.m. reported the theft of a red 1981 Toyota pickup from Cleaver Farming at Highway 730 and Paterson Ferry Road, Boardman. •A staff member at Pendleton High School, 1800 N.W. Carden Ave., called for police at 9:26 a.m. after a female student admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. •A Pendleton rental owner at 10:39 a.m. reported someone turned on water in his property on Southwest Eighth Street and former tenant. •A man at 11:31 a.m. reported someone caused $5,000- $10,000 worth of damage to a rock crusher at A & B Asphalt, 53847 Walla Walla River Road, Milton-Freewater. •A woman at about 2:15 p.m. reported her ex-boyfriend came to her residence at Castle Rock Apartments, 451 Tatone St., Boardman, and threatened to kill her and take her children. •A woman at about 4:15 p.m. confronted and pulled the hair of another woman at Pilot Rock Market, 168 N.W. Birch St., assailant from the business. •Two black males tried to sell dolls to a man in Hermiston who recognized the dolls as stolen a couple of years ago. The owner of the dolls is in Umatilla and at 4:27 p.m. told police the theft happened at the Oregon Trail Gallery and Trading Post, 621 Sixth St., Umatilla. •A red van at about 7:50 p.m. hit and broke a street sign on the 1500 block of Southgate Place, Pendleton. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Pendleton police arrested Andrew Ledvina, 27, address not provided, for felony driving while suspended/revoked. SCHOLARSHIPS Hall of Fame announces music scholarships PORTLAND — The Oregon Music Hall of Fame will award four $2,500 scholarships to students planning to study music. Eligible applicants include high school students graduating this spring who plan to major or minor in music at the collegiate level at any college or university in the country. Recipients will perform onstage during the public award presentation. The deadline to apply is Saturday, Feb. 14. To download the application packet, visit www.omhof. org. Eagles offer $1,000 scholarship HERMISTON — The Fraternal Order of Eagles of Hermiston is offering a $1,000 scholarship to seniors of accredited high schools. Students in Hermiston, Boardman, Irrigon, Heppner and Ione are eligible to apply. Previous recipients of the Hermiston Eagles Scholarship are not eligible. Applicants are chosen on the basis of academic record, Applications, which are available at each of the area high schools, must be postmarked no later than Sunday, March 1. Kiwanis seek scholarship applicants HERMISTON — The Hermiston Noon Kiwanis Club is accepting applications for Perry Johnson and Russell Dorran post-secondary education scholarships. The awards are for seniors from Hermiston High School or graduates of Hermiston who are attending college in academic programs. Applications are available at the HHS Hermiston Chamber of Commerce, 415 S. Highway 395. Important factors in the evaluation of applicants includes academic record, community service, need. The Dalles August 29, 1928-January 18, 2015 Betty Jean Way, a longtime resident of The Dalles, passed away peacefully at a care fa- cility in The Dalles on the eve- ning of January 18th, 2015. Betty was born to Frans (Frank) Martin Lovgren and Hannah Marie (Erickson) Lovgren August 29, 1928 on their farm at Eight- mile, Oregon, be- tween Condon and Heppner. She was the 11th of 13 broth- ers and sisters. She grew up in Eastern Oregon and was the valedictorian of her Heppner graduating class of 1946. She had excellent horse- womanship skills Way and was chosen as a princess for the Heppner rodeo in 1946. She worked during and after her high school years, at “Scotty’s” and at a bank in Heppner. Betty married Joseph Daniel Way, from the Lexington, Oregon, area after his WWII service in the Navy, on September 15, 1950, in Ketchikan, Alaska. While in Alaska they lived on Annette Island. The young couple moved from there to Las Ve- gas, Nevada, then to Salt Lake City, Utah, then to Fort Jones, California. While living in Fort Jones a son and a daugh- ter were born. The family then moved to Yreka, California, Oregon, in 1971, where they enjoyed many happy years. Betty was her daughter’s Girl Scout Brownie troop leader and many fun times were had. Some of her favor- ite times were when she was watching her granddaughters and great-granddaughters at their sporting events. Betty was active in sew- ing, embroidery, and crochet- ing. She made many sets of Barbie and Ken doll clothes and even entered them in the fair. Besides the many quilts she made especially for her family, many of her quilts and afghans were made to be do- nated to various senior orga- nizations and care facilities in and around The Dalles. Betty never saw a baby that she didn’t want to hold and cuddle. Her granddaugh- ters and great-granddaughters were the light of her life caus- ing many smiles, laughs, and lots of hugs. Betty was pre- ceded in death by her husband Jo- seph, and her sisters and brothers: Erma Christina Lovgren Keithley, Victor Ar- thur Lovgren, Helen Irene Lovgren Hor- ton Stradley Nevis, Alfred Lawrence Lovgren, Edna Jo- sephine Lovgren Harshman, Frances Marie Lovgren, Frank Mar- tin (Tim) Lovgren Jr., James Calvert Lovgren, Marshall Lovgren, Marion Lovgren and Robert Lee Lovgren. She is survived by her sister, Gladys May Lovgren Alderman of Heppner; her son Dane Way and his wife Darlene of The Dalles, Or- egon; her daughter Janna Way Thorp and husband Randy of Corvallis, Oregon; her granddaughters Karis- sa Way Hamm and husband Eric of The Dalles, Oregon, and Elizabeth Way Wheeler and husband Christopher of Monmouth, Oregon; and her great-granddaughters Drew, Lillian, and Josephine Hamm and Charlotte and Esmé Wheeler. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Or- egon, on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Everyone is invited to join the family for a short gathering after the services at the Senior Center in Heppner, 182 North Main Street.
