Tolilo has become Greater Tokio with a population of 6,164,000 people und an 1 area of 161.1 square miles. Tokio therefore comes third among the capi tals of the world with a million and a half more people within the city limits than Paris or Berlin. New York ranks second and London first. Twenty four villages and suburbs have been included in the greater city. The expansion has taken the form of a great circle, the Imperil Palace being almost in the centre. The radius is nearly 10 English miles. Viscount Goto, the mayor of Tokio, has in view the construction of mod ern roads, long lacking in the capital, improvement of the tramcar lines and the creation of a great harbor where ocean liners can call. In old times Tokio was called Yedo and was but a fishing village. The Shogun Tokugawa lyeyasu chose it for his capital in 1590. I HONGKONG, Nov. 21. (A. I'.) ' Sixty-five Chinese pirates, disguised as passengers, boarded the British steam er Sui-An when she left Macao for Hongkong yesterday and seized the ship a few miles out, holding passen gers captive for 13 hours. A flerca battle was fought on board, two being killed and several wounded. Finally a passenger shot the pirate chief and the other bueaneers escaped in sampans.
