'-;, .. 1 JUNE 20 IS EXTENDED TIME LIMIT FOR FILING BONUS APPLICATIONS SALEM, ' May 26. (A; P.) The time limit for filing initial applica tion for the cash bonus or loan under the so-called bonus law has been ex tended from May 25 to June 20 of this year. This was announced yesterday by captain Harry Brumbaugh, secretary oi me wona war veterans' state aid commission. This change In the rules of the commission, Captain Brum baugh said, was based on an opinion of the attorney general. The-attorney general held, in his opinion that al though the ' legislative enactment if considered alone, would have made me time limit effective May 25 of t,hls yearj the constitutional ' amendment which authorized and ratified the In did not become effective until the gov ernor issued his proclamation on June 21, 1921. . " ' Since the law became effective only upon the passage of the constitutional amendment, the attorney-general held that the time limit for receiving ap plications should be determined by the date the amendment became op erative, The rules of the commission provide that applications must be filed within one year after the act be-, came effective, and as a result all ap plications received at the offices of the commission up to midnight June 20, will be considered. Wilder knottier opinion of the attorney-general. the filing of the Ini tial' application for either the j cash bonus ' or loan established the appli cant's' right to reecke either. As a result of this opinion an applicant who' had expressed' ft preference for tttd loan In tlio initial application and -J for sotno reason was unable tq , pqm- -Plete the transaction, would be en titled to receive the cash bonus in lieu thereof although the timo, limit forsaking: application for tho ' cash bonus hid expired. ' : '. ' Eligible relatives of deceased veter- ans w;ho cases aro affected by the' re-' suit of the suits now pending In the courts should protect" themselves " by filing Initial applications before' June 21, Mr. Brumbaugh raid. This :, ap plies more especially to the eligible relatives, of: veterans who have died since filing thoir applications and be- . fore they were, acted upon. I . bbTtT I T4I : L .
