Fifty years ago this month the miners of Gross Valley illstrict. declared a strike as a pro test against the introduction of giant powder for blasting. ' TJiey declared that the new explosive endangered their lives, and a solemn pledge was token that they would not return to work until the use of black powder Was resumed.
