Snow gave a discussion of American drama and Mrs. L. M. Spauldlng save a review of the play, "Six Cylinder Love." by William Sic Ouire. She read a number of extracts from the play. Mrs. E. B. Aldrlch sang most pleasingly "Li'l Rosebud Joe." (Eber C. Hamilton) and 'Thy Heart's a Rose," "Claude Warford), Mrs. E. A. Woodyard playing the piano accompaniment. During the social hour, Mrs. L. A most successful meeting of the Missionary society of the Baptist church was held yesterday at the home of Mrs. E. W. Myers, on Lll leth street. Mr. Mason Thompson (rave a reading, "The Mission Story." Mrs. Harry Lincoln was on the pro gram for "Ilelleious Conditions of the Orientals In America." Mrs. Louise Lampkln gave a talk on the Chinese students In America and Airs. Guy Johnson spoke on the Chi nese language. Pendleton's newest card club, known as the "No Hostess" club, en joyed a luncheon yesterday in the Elks' dining room, with Mrs. Wilson B. Brock and Mrs. Lyman Rice in charge of the arrangements. Earner Is lute this year, the date being April 16. the latest that the fes tival can occur, with the exception, of the date of April 20. A number of Pendleton people, are suffering from an epidemic of la grippe. Market' roads to be built by fmatll la county during this year Include every section of the county. On all of the roads except the Reed nnd Hawley mountain road, macadam construction will be followed. On the mountain road, the grade will be constructed, but no gravel will be laid. The resi dents of the mountain will cooperate with the county In the construction of the expensive bit of roadway which will open up a rich, rapidly-developing section. , The program of roads is as follows; Butter Creek road, six miles, con tract already let and work under way. Echo east to Goodnight ranch three miles.. Reed and (Hawley mountain grade, grading only, five miles. Crockett road ; from the Oregon Washington highway to the Walla Walla river, ono and one-half miles. This rond is already built but is to be paid for out of 1922 receipts. The Umaplne-Barrett and the Uma- pine-State Line roads of a total length of four miles. Pilot Rock road up East . Birch creek three and one-half miles. Houser-McCoy on Umatilla mea dows south, one and one-half miles. Pendleton-DeSpaln Gulch road. three miles. Tumalum bridge road to. Milton nursery two and one-half miles.
