stop here so that local road needs may

Old Survey Is pound
This forenoon a delegation of men
Interested In the Improvement of the
Stage Gulch road wan before the coun
ty court asking that certain work be
done. It was previously believed by
the court that the Stage Gulch road
had not been surveyed but an old sur
vey from "Swift' station to Umatilla"
wa discovered. The survey was made
by Col. J. H. Haley when he wa a

Valuable I turn Burned.
A heavy loss wa suffered last night
on the Olney Bimpson farm In De
spain (iulch when a big barn burned
to the ground. There was no insur
ance on either barn or contents, and
all the equipment, some grain, and feed
were conmrmed In the fire."- Twenty
head of mules were stabled for the
night In the barn, and only eight of
them were saved. The fire was dis
covered about midnight by one of the
boys at the house who thought the
light he saw came from an automobile
headlight. Jesse Vaughn, who farms
the place, suffered painful wounds in
his effort to free the livestock. He
was burned on the face, hand and

About 2100 acres of hay have been
contracted for under the marketing
agreement of the recently formed
Oregon Cooperative Hay Growers- As
sociation and It is expected that
Uoardman and lrrigon growers will
each sign up for 1000 acres, more than
reaching the necessary total of 4000
acres which must be secured hpfore
the contract are binding, say Fred
Bennion, county agriculture agent.
Meetings nre being held in Uoardman
and Iri igon today to get signer to the
agreement. The 2100 acres is signed
by 60 growers of limatilia and Morrow
counties. No charge are made In the
agreement against hay consumed lo
rnlly which indicates that the policy of
the organization is not to hold up .the
price (if alfalfa. The contract I n
