varsity and freshmen crews 'In traln-

his squad of oarsmen, temporarily de
pleted by commencement exercises at
Syracuse rigged up a 'varsity crew
with subs and directed an easy rou
tine. The heat of the morning also
caused Coach Ripe of Columbia to
give his crews a light workout. This
afternoon Coach Charles E. Courtney
or Cornell paid his first visit to the
Columbia crews at Glenwood and spent
an hour visiting Coach Rice and his

builder and an old time oarsman.

scheduled bouts with Johnny Seppard

Leonard said his physician advised

Plans were completed last night to re
launch at high water late today Sham
rock IV, Sir Thomas Upton's chal
lenger for the America's cup. The

The "trial horse" has been In the
water since Friday and is rigged ex

ing for Sandy Hook. Sir Thomas will
lead the fleet in his recently charter
ed steam yacht Victoria. The chal
lenger and the trial horse will be tow-
ed by the tug Governor Smith, which
has been painted green to correspond
with the colors of the other Lipton
craft. The houseboat Killarney also
will be towed to the Hook and the
other craft will go down under their
own power.
HOLLAND BEATS SOUTH
AFRICA IN NET PLAY
AMSTERDAM; June 15. In the
preliminaries for the Davis cup, Hol
land defeated South Africa. In the
matches Just concluded at Arnheim.
Dutch representatives beat the South
African players three matches to two.
They thereby qualified for the final
round for the Davis cup.
In the drawings Holland and South
Africa were paired; France and the
United States were, paired and the
British Isles and Canada each drew
