The Olym pic events consist of about twelve com petitions for individuals and teams with army rifle and pistol; hunting arms and revolvers at moving and stationary targets over ranges extend ing from 32 to 658 yards. Air events Planned for 1920 promise to make it a hlfc aiiatlon sport year, according to the American Flying Cllib, The firHt event of importance will be the flying field day of the Intercollegiate Flying AwiJCiatlon at Mineola Field, N. Y., May 7. Bleven colleges and universities will be represented in var ied program of flying stunts, which will bo concluded 'with a cross coun try flight. In this race each will be I permitted to enter two airplanes and a cup will be awarded to the winner. 1 The sturt will be made at Mineola Field, where the race also will end after a circuit that probably will in clude Philadelphia and Princeton. Arrangements also are being made by the club for a seaplane race around Iorig Inland. This probably will be held early in the summer. The club Ih o "operating with the training and operations group of the United States Army Air Service In planning for a transcontinental air race between New York and Alaska, a distance of 4,970 miles. In the tentative plans tljo course is mapped out from Min eola across United States territory to Minot, N. D., crossing the Sa-skatche-wan. Can., and across the Dominion to Fort Kgbert on the Alaska border. In Alaska the route runs to Circle. Fort Yukon, Fairbanks by way of Fort Ciibbon, thence to Nulato and Nome. Compulsory stops at an ave rage f each 150 miles will be arrang ed. Flying events of a sporting nature will not be confined, however, to the United States in 1920, In France a Pying meet is scheduled to be held at JuvIhv, near Paris. May 22 and 23. The Hritish aircraft exhibitions will be held at London in July. In addition the Hritish government has offered eevereJ millions in pounds as prizes for various airplane sporting events too be held during the year. The Cape to Cairo route M being blazed. Between the two points the distance by rail, steamship or ground transport is ap proximately 6.223 miles. The aerial line is about 5,200 miles.
