They let us have about all' I their gas and high explosives, then' they werent satisfied unless they. ; would work on us with a whiz bang ot 1 a trench mortar and that front was a' ; hiird front to fight on. We were in Chateau Thierry 8 U -some days and i didn't have any one to back up, but J the J"o5's clung to the old game and jput the death grip on it so any Ger ; man division couldn't break the front. Now this front isn't the wor.t ' frunt we ever tackled but was the i hardest in the way of clinging to a' hard tank which the 2nd division took j and took like a man. We kept the Germans from going to Paris. Thisi sergeant also states he was eleven day without any sleep at the front ; w,hich I mentioned above. We didn't; hardly aleep for twenty days. All wej did was doze off and that wan enough. ! The division which I was in won great! praise and also the regiments of this division but I'll say and tell the same ! thing to anybody, we weren't any bet ! ter than any other regiments of the A. C- K. We all did our bit and when la man can say his regiment" Is the best, well, he has the pep. but I j wouldn't say so. I would go an j p!ace with my regiment or the regl iment I am in. for they sure are fight ing nven. not because they are Ma rines In our division is the ninth and twenty-third doughboys and fifty and sixth Marines and them good old doughboys sure did fight. Now then we finally were relieved from Chateau Thiery and made a j trip to SoisHons which was a very !m ; portant drive at that time. We drove two days and it was nearly as bud as. i Chateau Thierry, but we shot ahead ! and kept going and was released In j two days to real up for a biff drive on t j another front. While resting our dK i (vision was made shock troops. Well.; : perhaps you know what shock troops, j are. They pick the best division for : such work. Now we weren't the only( ' o yips that had the honor as hockdi-, visions.. There . were two others at j this time made the same, thing. Xow thi I, what we did before this WkU I I Williamson's division arrived. We i went to St- Mihlel, which was an easy. ffr-nt. We drove several miUs and j had a hard time keeping up with the' I Hineys- We then were relieved- and ; ' came back to rst, being there about; two weeks. The French picked the i div slon which we boys were in to help I make a drive at Champagne. Wej drove, there from the flrnt to the sixth' of October and was it was the hardest' battle vie ever foright attd every yard of ground we took we had to fiuht ; for it. I will tell the world if a man got out of that all O. K. he had a horseshoe in his pocket or an awful j lot of good lurk and we i ground the Germans had held for four year, i Well, the boys were pulled out to ' ,. Fims Brings Happiness ! With Tte Dswa I go to the Argonne forest to fight, They drove fourteen kilometers with out a stop and drove where a, division couldn't even bend the line. Xow, then, this is a brief story of our division and regiment. At that I will say we had it just as hard us any division and t can't say we were anv better than other divisions. Yanks did fine in every division and rate a good cheer and every tiring else. People can't Imagine what war is; if a man told them they would Bay we lie. Po much for that. I would like to know if this sergeant realizes there were more men over here than his regiment and how 4n;ny times ho fought beside the French and how many citations he! got and if he re ceived any medals; also if that was house of correction previously over- POLICE HUNT GIRL l lowing una in ueea or expansion, auw ; : thn n..n.mlacl,nard fin.
