The pupils of the eighth grade of the Rieth schools I (rave a picnic last week at Barnhart ! which was well attended by their friends and all report a most enjoy able time. I v. W. Duck given by Mrs. Hlleman and won by Vern Cates for 17.50. Chicken given by Mrs. Hollister was won by Mrs. Chas. McBevitt for 15. Both duck and chicken were, sold again for tl.00. Music was furnished by Ben Doughtery, C. T. W. Hollister of Portland came up for a short visit with his family at Gurdane,. also to attend the Red Cross entertainment and dance. There was a big dance and auction sale at Lena the 18 which was given for the Red Cross, bringing about 1286. One turkey bringing 340, a sheep 375 and a horse 330 and many other articles were sold too numerous to mention. Frank Jones and family were up from Butter Creek to attend the Red Cross entertainment. Anthony Corley. who has been spending the winter with his daugh ter Mrs. Charles Manning of Pilot Rock came up Sunday to visit with his sons at this place. Mrs. Vern Cates has been ill the past week but at present Is some better. Harry Enright who has been work ing for C. T. Hollister at Gurdane went to Alba to attend the dance Saturday night.
