Twice Pendleton has voted upon

In his address. Judge IoweI re

This regardsxa city as a great busi

"The advantage claimed for th
new system, and they seem to he

public business, 5 more efficient
nd more Just enforcement of the
law.
"Under the commission form of
government public officers are paid
and It Is axomatic that no man ever
ought to be asked to perform public
service without any fy. The state,
the municipality, requires a class of
service of the highest character, ft
can n,ever receive such gratuitously.
The salary Is unimportant, because It
will usually be saved over and over
again by re son of prompt and care
ful attention to public business when
a man In paid.
"The mo'l Importsnt factor however
lies In the fixing of personal respon
sibillty. Under either form of com
mission government some one Is re
sponsible, and there can be no throw
inn of such responsibility upon some
one class. Under such circumstan
ces the work of the public becomes
a mater of pride, and Is well and
fiilthfully done
"Under the old system no man .can
evr run down a blunder or fix re

effort he will be sent in circles un

"Four-Ninety" Touring Car $635
F. O. B. PENDLETON
The Chevrolet Four-Ninety Touring Car is a car of ideal
economy. It gives ycu the most value for your money.
The Chevrolet delivers the maximum power to the rear
wheels. It accomplishes this fat through simplicity af
mechanism. This compels directness of action. The re
sult is more power and speed and less fuel and expense.
The pnth of Chevrolet power is short and direct. The
vaporized fuel enters directly Into the valve-in-head mo
tor. - The impart of explosion strikes full against the
piston head. It is an act' of face-to-face co-operation.
The fullness of the force is exerted immediately on the
lear wheels. No friction of a second or horse-power is
unduly spent. The Unit power plant type of construc
tion does the business. , ..
And the result is, of course, that you ride faster and
farther on one gallon of gasoline in this particular model.
That is economy. And that is what you will find Jn the
Chevrolet Four-Ninety. .
