No contract has been signed, but Tinker before de parting upon a hunting trip is re ported to have said that it would be signed next week. A thousand women attended the reception given after high mass today by Cardinal Gibbons to the delegates to the Inter national Federation of Catholic Al umnae. The Cardinal surprised the assemblage when the Papal Countess Spottlswood-Mackin of New York and Paris was presented to him. She wore a black dress on the waist of which were pinned her decorations. "I am delighted to see you," said the Cardinal. Then while scores were in line wait ing to be presented the Cardinal re moved the little red skull cap em blematic of his rank and presented it to the Countess. "Keep this as a re membrance of me," he said. The Countess, kneeling, accepted the gift "If you will aw it me after the re ception I will present you with an au tographed photograph," the Cardinal added. "America's Electrical Week," a" nation-wide eight day celebration, beginning today, will be marked here tonight by the first illumination of the Statue of Liberty. From this day forth the great fig ure, the gift of France to America, will shine forth as a welcome to the traveler from Europe by night as well as by day. A New York newspaper (the World) took up a popular subscription for the purpose. Assisting it were other newspapers throughout the country. The flood lighting system will be used. Leading the celebration this week are the heads of electrical companies representing investments of four bil lion dollars. Miss Buckley quit the stage to care for her sick mother, seventy four years old, who also at one time was famous on the boards. Her husband was the late E. J. Buckley, who play ed leading roles with Booth, Barrett and McCullough. Miss Buckley was forty four years old. She was taken ill yesterday morning and when a physician arriv ed from New York hospital she was dead. I Her brother, E, J. Mhen Miss Ruth Law, twenty-eight years of age, dropped down on Gov ernors Island, New York City, In her aeroplane from Chicago, she had broken two American endurance rec ords, and General Leonard Wood,' commander of the department of the east, was one among many to re.' ognlze the importance and daring ot her flight. She flew Sunday, Nov. 19, from Chicago to Hornell, New York, 50 miles without a stop, and the following day she flew from Blnghamton to New York city, 117 miles. She had made the whole dU. tance of 897 miles in S hours. 55 minutes and 30 seconds. Her flight to Hornell broke American no-stop records, and her completed flight to New York City broke all distance records for the time.
