WARREN'S MUSIC HOUSE REPLIES TO SLANDER SI IT W. II. Lytic, state Veterinarian, IV fcmlant in Action. PORTLAND, ore., May 10 W. H. Lytle, state veterinarian, answers the (50,000 slander suit filed against him by Qeorge H. Mokei by reasserting that the statements fie made concern ing Mokel are true. Lytle's answer was filed Monday. Lytle admits writing the alleged li belous letter to O. M. Plummer, sec retary of the Portland Union Stock yards. In reply to a query' from Mi' Plummer In this letter Lytle state-i that he personally knew that Mokel has sold cattle affected with tubercu losis, and has been closely in league with James Dorsey of Gilberts, 111., who was recently Indicted by the fed eral grand Jury for Interstate move ment of diseased animals. In explanation of the letter, Lytle says he wrote it at the time Mokel's appointment as postmaster for the North Portland postoffice was before the United mates senate for confir mation. He alleges that In 1912, till and 1114 Mokel received cattle shipped from Illinois by Dorsey an.l both knew they were affected with tuberculosis. Wool I en mills operating in Oregon Will be j exempted from the provisions of the nine-hour rule which the revision con ference of the Industrial Welfare i Commission proposes to apply gener-j ally to manufacturing Industries of the state A decision to this effect was reach-1 eil at a meeting of the conference yesterday following appeals from both the employers and employes in the woolen Industry, and after hearing a request from a committee represent ing the Portland chamber of com merce that no "burdensome restrli tlons" be imposed upon manufactur ers. Miw'-llour Day Propo-ed. The conference previously had ad opted a recommendation for a nine hour day for women workers in all occupations. The present regulations allow women to worx not to exceed ten hours a day, with a maximum of M hours a week.
