Rheumatism Is no respecter of age, trx, color or rank. If not the most dangerous of human afflictions it is one of the most painful. Those sub ject to rheumatism should eat less meat, dress as warmly as possible. (void any undue exposure and, above all, drink lota of pure water. Rheumatism Is caused by uric acid which Is generated In the bowels and absorbed Into the blood. It la the function of the kidneys to filter this acid from the blood and cast it out in the urine; the porea of the fkln are also a means of freeing the Mood of this Impurity, In damp and chilly, cold weather the skin porea are closed, thus forcing the kidney to do double work,, they become weak and sluggish and fail to elimi nate this uric acid which keeps ac cumulating and circulating through the system, eventually settling In the Joints and muscles causing stiffness, soreness and pain called rheumatism. PORTLAND, Ore. Portland is se curing a fair volume of Atlantic coast I flour business as a result of the re- cent formation of the Atlantic-Pacific! Flour company, a subsidiary of the! Portland Flouring Mills company. Quite fair shipments are going for ward by boat to New York, but It Is stated that most of the business Is up and down the coast and not in New York city Itself. Promoters of the new concern are confident that they will be able to bring regular business in this direction and thereby aid the general cereal situation. Shipments of wheat to the east continue from Interior Pacific north west points. Interior prices are in reality higher than tidewater for the reason that the freight rate from there to the east and central west is lower than by rail from the coast.! While the steamer rate from here U slightly lower than grain rate from the Interior, still there is no freight! room available. At noon today the magnificent new Elks home in La Grande was officially turned over by the contractors and architects to the building committee of the lodge. For several days Architect Haug taling, of the firm of Hougtaling & Dougan, and W. F. Tobey of the Palmer-Ellson Construction Co have been In La Grande arranging for the final turnover of the build Ing. As In .the case of the erection of every Class A building, a few verv minor things such as scratches on woodwork, protruding nailheads, etc. were found by the architect and it was necessary for the construction company to perfect all of these mi nor matters before the building woulc1 be accepted. All this has been done, and today the building committer took charge of the structure and both contractor and architect sur rendered their possession. That it Is a first class Job in even particular no one can doubt. Its construction has been watched with much care not only by the engineer and architect, but by the different members of the building committee. The Kidneys and the Ski".
