After making a man dance to the staccato accompaniment of his six- shooter, Rodlge fired Into- the crowd. A dash was made after Ridlge by cit izens after he had held the crowd off with his gun, and the supposed des perado took to sJs heels. He was caught, given a drubbing and placed under arrest. MOTORCYCLE CLUBS END MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN NEW YORK, July 2 Many hun dreds of new members of the New York State Affiliated Motorcycle Clubs were added to the rolls when the Intensive membership campaign begun last October ended. Much friendly rivalry was shown between organizations, as the Federation of American Motorcyclists offered handsome prizes for individuals and clubs which secured the largest num ber of new members. LOS ANGELES, July 2. Attacked by a giant torn cat, a burglar in the home of C. H. Zlegler, was routed after a bloody battle. Ziegler. awak ened by the cat's shrieks, found the burglar plunging about the room, the cat between his shoulders, clawing his neck and head. LEBANON, Ore., July 2- For the first time In the history of Lebanon a police officer was fined by the city recorder for violating a city ordinance when Rev, Mr. Elklns, the recorder of Lebanon, fined M. D. Davis, the night officer, far using profane and abusive language in a public place Davis arrested three boys late at night and locked them tip In the city jail over night and let the ther two go home. The supreme court of Minnesota was of this opinion when it affirmed the verdict of a Jury In the Ramsey county district court granting a di vorce to William C. Hertx from Annie M. Hertx. At the trial Hertx asserted that for several years he had been compelled to prepare his morning meal with out assistance from his wife. He al so accused her of nagging, of charg ing him with going about with other women, of calling him vile names anj of being dissatisfied with her home. Cushlng of the house ruled that Representative Mulvaney. who wanted to appear on the floor without a coat, was out of order. The ruling was greatly to the dis gust of the representative, who claimed the same right to leave off Part of his aparel that was recently enjoyed by the Rev. Mr. Sawyer of Ware, another representative, who caused something of a commotion by appearing there sockless and wearing open work sandals. Representative Mulvaney waa chal lenged by the doorkeeper and told he could not vote If he took his seat with out his coat. Corporal Godfrey and his mechanician were instantly killed when their monoplane encountered a storm at an altitude of 1000 feet and fell. School teach ers, college professors, county super intendents and presidents of universi ties from every state in the union gathered in the auditorium here this morning at the opening of the fifty second annual convention of the Na tional Educational Association. Jo seph Swain, president of the N. E. A. and also of Swarthmore College, de livered his annual address following the address of welcome by Governor A. O. Eberhart. President Swain talked on "The Relation of the Teach- er to American CltUenshlp." An In ternational aspect was given the con vention at the morning's session by Professor Sidney Lewis Gullck of the Imperial University at Kioto, Ja pan, who spoke on the "Responsi bility of American Educators In the Solution of America's Oriental rroblem."
