the announcement was made that no
"ragtime" and only a little "popular"
music would be on the program, the
success of the "pops" was regarded
as doubtful by many. But the at
tendance at the concerts so far has
dispelled all doubts as to the concerts'
future popularity and caused Herr
Timmer the director, to declare his
belief that the craze for "ragtime"
was dying and that "real music" was
again coming into It's own. The
"pop" concerts are Sunday Institutions
and are furnished to the people of
Cleveland at cost.
LA GRANDE'S NEW' CITY
COMMISSION IN OFFICE
LA GRANDE, Ore., Nov. 21. After
transacting some routine matters. La
Grande's old city .council stepped
aside and the new commissioners re

Laddlngton, aged 88 years, fur half a
century a miner and prospector on

his cabin home. Neighbors heard an

Death was probably caused, in the
opinion of Coroner A. E. Kellogg of
Gold Hill, who went to Investigate, by
the explosion of four or five sticks of
dynamite the old miner kept in his
cabin.
Laddlngton came to Oregon in 1852
and was a central figure in the min
ing activity t those dayB. He wrested
a fortune from the earth then, but
of recent years he has received a
monthly allowance from the county.
He was born In Kentucky.
