Mysterious explosions coming from the depths of a i!ug well at the village of Three Pines, a few miles to the north of Grants Pass, having caused much speculation as to the cause of the phenomenon. The well was dug last July by D. W. Davis is 41 1-2 feet in depth and six feet square. The excavation is through granite soli the entire depth, and the water vein was found In a narrow strata of clay that cut across the bottom of the well. When this J vein was struck the water rose rap-j Idly to a height of about six feet,' where it has since remained. Last Saturday night a series of ex plosions were heard within the well, and the water was churned Into mud. One of these explosions was so se vere .that it Jarred the earth and awakened the Davis family sleeping In the house 20 feet away. Again Sunday night the phenom enon occurred at about the same hour, and at each explosion the wa ter and gravel were hurled in a col umn nearly to the top of the well. Today Mr. Davis say the explosions are occurring at about 10 hour Inter vals, and that the water gets no chance to clear so ns to be .available for household ue. for which purpose RASH ON IIS AIM SPOTS Developed Into Running Sores.
