I'm tin rul broke some records today, but they were not of the kind that slock raisers desire to see. From its proud position us puying the hlKhest price fur hoKH In the entire country, the record was given to Chicago today and even Kansas City was above North l'lirtlaud In price. Omaha was only Km- lower than this market ut Its Ix-xt, or about a dlmu under on the average. The trade here Ih netting more hogs than It needs. The country Is produc ing more hogs titan the t radii can lake care of w ithout demoralizing vul pes, This Is Indicated by the sharp losses In price, whenever there Is u sin-rial amount of stuff available. Top hogs were $8.65 In the North Portland markets, showing a sheer drop or about 11.35 loss for tho We. k ti) date. This Ih the greatest decline nhown In the entire country and shows that the trade here Is not able to take iare of a good run when it Is avliuble. There is no mistaking the signs of the times In the North Portland mar ket during the past few days. Killers say that they would be able to get their requirements without puying previous values and by sharp cutH they beut the market down faster than ever before known In any Am erican market, at least within recent years. We know of no other medicine which has been so successful in relieving the suffering of women, or received so many genuine testimonials, as has Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. In nearly every community you will find women who have been restored to health by this famous medicine. Almost every woman you meet knows of the great good it has been doing among suffering women for the past 30 years. In the Tinkham Laboratory at Lynn, Mass., are files containing hundreds of thousands of letters from women seek ing health, in which many openly state over their own signatures that they have regained their health by taking Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, many of whom state that it has saved them from surgical operations. Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Com pound is made from roots and herbs, and is perfectly harmless. The reason why it is so successful is because it contains ingredients which act directly upon the female organism, re storing it to healthy and normal activity. Women who are suffering from those distressing ills pecu liar to their sex should not lose sight of these facts or doubt the ability of Lydia E. Tinkham's Vegetable Compound to restore their health. v5iAsirNioi?crt"w m o mi A MASS OF SPOTS Developed Into Running Sores, Itch ing Terrible. SISTER ALOYSIUS UNDERGOES ORDEAL Tacoma, Wash., Sept. 21. Rather than allow what was termed "a most vicious attack against the character ot Sister Aloysius" to go to the jury unrefuted. Attorney Kane, represent ing the defense in the $10,000 action for damages against prominent Cath olics, declared yesterday he would subpoenae the entire town of Buck ley, Wash., to testify as to the char acter and reputation of the sister and her parents. M. Card yesterday morning permitted the tes timony of several witnesses brought lure from Huokley, where the mother and father of Sister Aloysius reside, to tell what they know of the charac ter of the young sister and her par ents. Pr. John H. Sheets, for 23 years physician for the family of Michael Mellugh, father of Sister Aloysius, whose true name is Agnes McHugh. said the character anil rep utation of both parents and child in the community of Buckley had al ways been very good. He was ques tioned particularly as to his knowl edge of degeneracy, and as to wheth er or not it was hereditary. He re p.ied that usually it was. but that In frequently it was due to environment of the child. When Attorney Kelly objected to testimony being Introduc ed to show the character of Sister Aloysius and her parents. Attorney Kane leaped to his feet and in a tone shaking with indignation said: "The character of this little sister has been submitted to u most vicious attack. She has been singled out as the one person who by her actions and association with Marjorie Kieman. luted her from her mother. If neces sary we want to bring the whole town of Buckley to this count to show her reputation and character from her birth to the present time." Judge Card stated that there was some doubt in his mind as to the admislbitity of testimony of this kind, but that he would rather lean to wards the sister and allow her a chance to defend her character. He said, however, he eou.d allow but four witnesses tor this particular subject. John F. Jones, who said he had known Mike McHugh and his daugh ter for ltl years during his residence in Buckley, testified that the charac ter of both parents and the girl and their reputation had always been the very best. William O. Kempinski, a druevist, was of the same mind. When placed on the stand Thurs day atleinoon. Sister Aloysius said: "I have treated Marjorie as a mother would treat a child vho is heart sick." She emphatically denied having ever exerted any influence over the girl, the tendency of which was to es trange her from her mother. Mrs. Magnuson. Mother Camille, another of the de fendants sat through the session of court reading from a book of prayers, her lips moving perceptibly. The usual crowd of women and girls was in attendance.
