' For the purpose of enabling the Common Council of the City of Pen dleton to select suitable pavements for the various streets in said city, sealed bids are hereby requested for the con- stuctlng and laying of such pave ments, which Includes all necessary excavating and filling, furnishing and laying of necessary drainage pipes, constructing all proper gutters and curbs, and the doing of all other work and furnishing of all other ma terial necessary to be done or fur nlshed in order to make a completely paved street the streets to be taken as they now stand and when com pleted their surfaces to be on the es tablished grades. Complete speclfl cations are requested with each bid, and bids should be at so much per square yard. All bids must be ac companled by certified check for 8600 payable to the order of the Mayor of the City of Pendleton, to be forfeited If the bidde's proposal is selected by the council, and the bidder thereafter, when the contract for the work is regularly advertised to be let, shall present a higher bid or shall fall to present a bid. All bids must be filed with the Recorder of tho City by five o'clock p. m. on May 22, 1912. The council has the right to select any pavement it pleases, and to reject any and all bids and proposals. William Potts of Helix, was among the passengers on the incoming N. P. local this morning. Mrs. Alice King and Miss Mysa King are among the Burns delegates to the Rebekah assembly. Miss Pauline Kline, Misses Jacobs and Cora L. Newton are among the Corvallis ladles here for the annual Rebekah assembly. John Williams, postmaster at Her- miston and member of the Odd Fel lows lodge of that place Is here as a grand lodge visitor. Mrs. C. W. Helsler and Mrs. L. M. Smith of Dufur, are among the host here for the annual Odd Fellows con vention. ' Otto Peetz, a county official of Sherman county, came in from Moro last night to attend the Odd Fellows' grand lodge. W. B. Vaughan, Mrs. Earl F. West and Mrs. J. W. Daley are among the Baker delegates to the grand lodge here. Dr. W. T. Williamson and C. C. Newcastle are among the Portland delegates to the grand lodge of the I. O. O. F. meeting here. S. J. Campbell, county fruit inspec tor, came down this morning from the east end of the county In order to enforce the spraying law. Mrs. C. B. Wade has returned from Union, where she had been in the in terests of the suffrage campaign and reports meeting with good success. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Nelson of Mc-1 MInnville, are here for the grand lodge and are amonj those trying to secure the 1914 convention for their home city. Col. J. M. Williams, well known of ficer of the O. N. G., and a prominent attorney of Eugene, Is among the three linkers here for the annual grand lodge. M. Svarvarud, a well known real estate man, and Ben Dorrls, for many years recorder of Eugene. K. Vardaman, on the floor of the demo cratlc convention. Alexander left the convention hall after adjourn inent apparently in good health and spirits, although he had been van qulshcd In the contest. On reaching the residence of Dr. Rowland, direct ly opposite the state house, he fell to the pavement and expired without speaking. Aviator Killed. Dayton. O., May 21.
