Rushing out of the tent into the larkness he was attacked by a bear, thought to have been a grizzly. The flesh from his right thigh and limb was nearly all torn away. His right side was cut open and his body otherwise horribly mangled. The scalp from his forehead to the back of his head was broken loose, and his left wrist broken and left arm chewed up.
