Lieutenant Hall and Inspectors of the customs service followed- the trail of the cap tors, and declare It shows plainly on the north side of the mountains mark ing the boundary. A map of the trail will be submitted to the state depart ment. Repairs were completed yesterday on the Mexican Northwestern and freight traffic will be resumed today. This will afford the relief to the Mor mon colonies which are In need of pro visions. Swaggart, the well known Athena hog raiser, is transacting business in the city today.' George T. Cochran of La Grande, Is a business visitor in the city, being registered at the St. George. C. P. Bowman and wife of Echo, were among the out of town people who spent the night In Pendleton. J. F. Gardner of Vale came In from that Malheur county city yesterday and is registered at the Bowman hotel. E. P. Stone of Idaho, who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. J. C. Mc- Connell of this city, left today for Ba ker city. Art Grover was among the Helix farmers who came in from that town on the Northern Pacific train this, morning. Ernest Knight, the young Helix rancher, came in this morning on the N. P. local to spend Sunday with friends. Mrs. Will M. Peterson and two chil dren, Raley and Anson, are spending several days in Walla Walla visiting with relatives. Rev. J. N. Cornellson, pastor at the Tutuilla mission, returned this morn ing from Milton, where he had been on business matters. Col. J. H. Raley went to Stanfield this morning to be present at the meeting of the lrrlgatlonists at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Miss Elsie McReynolds, who Is at tending the local high school, went to Pilot Rock this morning to spend Sunday with her parents. Judge Stephen A. Lowell went to Stanfield on the local this morning to attend the mass meeting of lrrlgatlon ists in that town this afernoon. John P. McManus, editor of the Pi lot Rock Record, and promoter of Appleburg, returned to his home this morning after spending the night in the city. Ralph B. McEwen, the well known young rancher of the. Testerday was the last day in which to pay the water right to the govern ment, and the office of the Water Users' association was certainly a very busy one. Crawford return ed yesterday from Davenport, Iowa, where they have been since Novem ber. Mr. Crawford is a representa tive of the Maxwell Land & Irriga tion company. He expects to start out again in the near future. Word has been received from Ed gar S. Loudenslager, from Daven port, Iowa, that he has started home to Hermiston, and will be on the road about ten days, going to several dif ferent points before coming here. Mr. Loudenslager Is representing the Maxwell Land & Irrigation company. Miss Mona Irvln, daughter of H. T. Irvin, returned from Canada yester day after an absence of two months, where she had been visiting with rel atives. The Skinner rooms have been rent ed by a company who will start a moving picture show at Hermiston. It is understood that this will be a first class picture show. DIES IN DENVER. to Umatilla County Man Succumbs Attack of Pneumonia. Fernando Manning, who was born and raised at Pilot Rock, died In Denver Thursday as the result of an attack of pneumonia, according to In formation Just received by his broth er Alex Manning of this city. Thf remains were Immediately ordered shipped to this city, from where they will be taken to Pilot Rock for Inter ment. The deceased was SS years of age and In addition to his mother, Mrs. Sarah Manning, who resides at Pilot Rock, he is survived by three brothers and two Bisters, as follows: Alex, Robert and William Manning, Mrs. Frank Pedro and Miss Ina Manning. The time for the funeral has not yet been set as it Is not known whether the body will arrive tomorrow or Monday. The Interment, however, will occur the day following the ar rival of the body.
