While at the duck preserves west of Eugene Sunday af ternoon, armed only with a 32 caliber rifle with short cartridges, Dr. M. M. Bull, a local dentist, ran acroag a big brown bear which a hound had driven down from the hills, and which It had treed. The doctor fired 31 shots, all the cartridges he had and declares that every one hit the bear, but the small bullets with little force behind them had little effect, and the bear after the fusilade was over climbed down the tree, lumped Into the Long Tom river and disappeared In the brush on the opposite side. O. A. C. Star Injured. Oregon Agricultural College, Cor vallis. During the, last few moments of scrimmage Tuesday night Enberg, the star fullback of the Oregon Ag ricultural college, football team, sus tained an Injury which will keep him off the field for many weeks. This accident Is one of the worst things that could have happened to the team, as Coach Schlldmlller has been building his team around the four men, Keck, Enberg, Hawley and Huntley. It will be utterly Impossible to re place Enberg, but there are several candidates who will be given a chance for the place. These men are Hastings, Asbahr, Sltton and Walters. Train Jumper Id Insane.. Roseburg, Or. William Booth, the young man who attempted to jump from a fast moving Southern Pacific train near Inland late Sunday night, and who was later taken Into cus tody by the Glendale officers and brought to Roseburg, was adjudged Insane by thhe county physician. Although ho carried over $600 In travelers' checks, payable at the First National bank of Great Falls Mon tana, all telegrams sent to thit city have been ignored, other than a reply from the cashier of the bank, who said he might hare funds there, but he did not know. Antananarivo, the capital, is to be linked with towns situated as far as 250 miles distant, which can only be reached by letter at the present time In eight days. The same distance can be traversed by .aeroplane in six hours. The-military commandant of Mad agascar Is now engaged with dele gates of the league in studying the country to be crossed by the aerial letter carriers.
