Portlantid Union StoiKyarJs, July
IB. Sheep market snowed a tinge of
weakness today and trading was
bI.iw. There continues a very good
demand for lambs and values rule In
tact at a rango of 15.75 to J6. With
the exception of 41 nead of hogs that
came In a load of sheep, all the ar
rivals today were of the latter line.
Cattle market, - while showing no
arrivals this morning, Is not over
firm although the tone Is steady. The
trade seems to be very well supplied
with cattle. A large per cent of
these are of poor quality and there
fore shipments of extra select quality
find quick response from buyers. As
In a recent transaction, something
better than the average will bring as
high as $5.60 for steers.
Hogs are holding fairly (steady al
thuugh there Is an inclination among
the larger buyers to follow the down

middle west.
Among the Shlpi'!-.
M. E. Oale had a load of sheep of
fering from Yamhill.
J. E. Bow shipped a load of sheep
fium Deed Island to the yards today.
J. N. Mlshler came through with a
loud of hogs and sheep from Hub
bard. Today's run of livestock compares
with this day In recent years as fol
lows: Hogs. Cattle. Sheep.

busy trying to move the freight from
the forks where it is transferred from
the large boat. The launch Marie is
still able to handle the passenger traf

that a large amount of money has
been appropriated to open Lewis riv

raising fruit and produce of all kinds,
shipped from this section to Portland.
A larger amount would be shipped if
conditions would .permit steamers to
reach this point all the year around.
