New York. lbtSot C.CV.01 Portland Union Stockyards, Dec. 20. There was a good showing of hogs over Sunday but the market absorbed all that came and contin ues to quote the record price, $8.75 as reported on Saturday.. Whllo It may be possible for the trade to snueezo a fractional ad vance out of the hog market for something extra select, the trade In general Is of the opinion that the top has about been reached for the present movement. Fact that eastern prices have re ceded recently g'ves rise to this thought of the local trade, for the Portland market can go no higher than the basis of eastern shipments, except during extra-ordinary times such as a famine or some accident which would hold back supplies while all Interests were empty. Bettor Clnss of Hogs Coming. - To the credit of local shippers It should be mentioned here In great b g letters that they are sending forth to the Stockdalo yards a better class of hogs than has heretofore been re ceived here as a rule. This I the reason why buyers are willing to overtop recent prices they want this stuff and are willing to pay for It. . Aoeordlnir to pome of the leading buyers they would not be compelled to send east for their packing hogs !f the local market could give them ns m:ny iw tie as their requirements demand and the same quality as has recently been received here. Today's run of hogs was 597 head. It compares with 523 Satrday, 75 Friday, 404 Thursday, 20 Wednes day, 636 Tuesday and 557 head a week ago today. A year ago today hog arrivals were 179 head, with the market Just about steady at unchanged values. Cattle Carried Over. Very liberal arrivals of cattle at a late hour Saturday forced many of the receivers to carry over a good portion of their supplies until to day's market. While only a small run of cattle was reported in the yards up to 11 o'clock, more was ex pected during tho day. However, w'th the carry over from Saturday, there were about 30 cars offering for inle this morn'ng. As a rule there was no change In enttln nrlees durine the day. One thing that helped the tradn to mnlnl tain prices was the fact -that a very lnrpe per cent of the arr'vals were of good quality. Had they been poor a lower level would have been like ly. Tho loral market does not want poor rnttle nt th's time. There was no run of calves in the yard's today: In fact none have ar riv..,i H'nei Thursday, when only a nominal supply came forward. There fore the market is good at former quotation ' A year ago today cattle arrivals were 325 head. Market was firm with no change In prices. Court showing of Sheep Prices. Moderate run of sheep was shown In the yards over Sunday. In this branch of the Stockdale yards, trade remains on a very good basis and for lambs the general range Is around $. Oood wethers range around $5 (TS 5 . 2 C . but It lakes quality to br'ng the latter figure. Ewes are selling around $4.5004.75, the latter for select. a venr a co todav sheen arrivals wer 1034 head, but tho liberal run did not in any way affect the high prices In effect at that time. The Perfection Oil Heater is the only heater equipped with this Automatic Smokeless Device which insures a steady, full-glowing heat, with the wick turned up as high as it will go, without a shred of smoke. Reverse the motion, turn the wick down there's no odor. The smokeless device automatically locks and prevents the upward movement of the wick beyond the proper exposure. That is the secret. This splendid result gives leadership to the Perfection. You may now have all the heat you want when you want itand where you want it without the annoyance of smoke or odor. Brass fon: holds 4 quarts of oil, which permits a glowing heat for 9 hours. Brass wick ttibe damper top cool handle. Cleaned in a minute. The Perftttion is beautifully finished in Nickel or Japan.
