Itlngland, Albuquerque, N, M.; district 4, Clyde Lenvltt, Ogdun, Utah; district 5, F. E. Olmsted, San Francisco, Cal.; district 6, E, T. Al len, Portland, Ore. It was the original Intention to lo cate the headquarters of district 4 at Salt Lake, The change to Ogden was made on account of advantages as re garJe convenience and economy of living afforded by that city. Men of Training. All the district forcxters are men of technical training und tried prac tical ability In forest matters. Most of them have been members of the f rest service for several years. ..They have risen In tho service througn fueceswlve promotions. They are fa miliar with national forest work, with the west, and with the western peo ple. Kecently they have been dealing In their dally work with the techni cal and business problems over which they will have larger and more re f ponsible supervision under the new pMslgnments. Mr. Greeley was born in New York In 1879 and In l!i90 moved to Califor nia, which Is still his legal residence. Ho Is a graduate of the I'nlverslty of California, and of the Yale Forest school, receiving the degree of Master of Forestry from the latter. In 1904 After working with the 1'. S. geolog ic ol survey he entered the forest ser vice through civil service examination July 1, 1904. His last position .was that of supervisor of the Peijuola national forest, California. Mr. Itlley was born In Maryland In 188. He received his education In the Sherwood Friends' school In Montgomery county, -ind In the pub lic schools of the District of Colum bia. He entered the forest service ns a student assistant In May, 1900, and has since held successively the positions of forest assltant, forest In spector, forest supervisor and associ ate chief of the office of forest man Ore ment. Mr. Kintrland was born In New York In 1SS2. After graduating from; the Montclalr high school ho became I a student assistant In the forest serv- Ice In 1900. He has 'l.ice IvliI the positions of assistant forest expert, forest assistant, chief of the office of reserve boundaries, chief of the sec tion of settlement, chief of tho office of lands, and assistant foreste r. Mr. Leavltt Is n'nntlve.of Michigan where he was bom In 1879. He en ti red the forest service as a student assistant In 1903, and has since pass ed through the grades of forest nls ta nt. assistant chief of the office of oi'KunlA'itlon, and chief of the office of organization. Mr. Olmtead was born In Hartford, Conn. He was grndualed from Ynle riiiersjty In 1S94. After following engineering and topographical work, he spent the year 1S37-S8 In the Har vard Graduate School of Forestry and continued the study of forestry In Germany and India In 1 S f. 8 and 18 99. Since then he has held the Positions of forest assistant, chief of ll0, division of products, chief of boundaries, chief of Inspector for the service, and chief Inspector for dis trict 5. Mr. Allen entered government ser vice ns a ranger under the general lr.nd office In 1898, the first year that the "reserves'" as they wire then call ed were under administration. In 18 99 he entered the forest service as a student Assistant and became a field assistant through civil service examination in 1900. In 10.01 he was transferred to the department of the Interior to heroine special Inspector of timber sales and trespnfs contro versies In the Hlask Hills, South Da kota. In 1903 he was transferred brck to tho forest service when, In 1905, the forests were placed under the administration of the forest ser- j vice, he 'beenme assistant chief of the section of reservo boundaries;' In July of the same year he accepted the position of stnte forester of Cal ifornia. He returned to the forest service In July, 1906, ns district In S ector, afterwards called chief In spector, for Oregon, Washington and Alnskn. $100 Reward, $100.
