In ono of the most remarkable decisions ever rendered by a French court, the secretary of the Electrical Workers' union was sen tuiced to pay damages to members 0 the union because they were thrown out of work on the night of August 6. when Paris wan dark. The court ruled that electrical strike was called as the result of a sort of ! military alarm and must bo recog nized as malicious, since it overthrew ' the city's economic life and deprived those who wanted to work. The vote at the Joint session of the house and senate today on the senatorial contest showed a deadlock certain, and prob ably of long duration. An American consular report on the crops of Prlnc Edward's Island for this season says: The commis sioner reports that the grains pro duced In the province are of superior quality, free from weeds, and well adapted for seed grain. During the same year the value of the Island fisheries was about $1,220,000, mak ing a total of nearly $13,000,000 as the agricultural and sea product of the province for the year 1907. Prince Edward Island contains only 2184 square miles, but It is said that with more careful cultivation and use of now uncultivated lands its productivity could be doubled, while the fisheries yield from the adjacent waters could be indefinitely Increased.
