Insurance Coniianes Demand Re wiring and Increase Rates Unlew Tlielr Requests Are Granted Few Rewired Before Advance Oocnrrctf Tardy Owners Will Re Given Re bates Wlien Electric Wires Are Safeguarded. Insurance rates for the buslne- sictlon of Pendleton have bfen ad vanced from 13 to 30 per cent and the new terms are now in force for' practically the entire town. As a re sult Insurance Is now costing mer chants and property owners about 21 per cent more than In the past. Some months ago It was announc ed by the insurance companies that rates would be advanced unless build ings were rewired. This caused many owners to contract for the rewiring of their premises and J. L. Vaughan ha had a force of electricians working constantly for some time past. How ever, It has been impossible for htm tu cover the entire town before th new rates went Into effect. For many local policies the new rates went Into effect July 23 and August 14. But a few days ago no tices were received here giving the advance on much other property. Some Idea of the advance that ha been made In Insurance rates may be ' had from the following concrete ' cases: Odd Fellows' building, corner Main and Alta streets. The former rata on the building was 126, the new rats 160. The former rate on the content of the lower floor was 162. The new rate Is 190. The former rate on ths lodge hall was 132 and the new rate Is 165. The Matlock-Brownfield building. The former rate on the building was 218 and the new rate is 256. The old rate on the contents was 224, and. the new rate Is 267. In some cases where buildings have -been rewired the insurance has been reduced. This Is true of the Bow man hotel, for which the building rate has been reduced from 224 to 207 and the rate on the contents from 229 to 215. However, other things also Influenced the reduction of rates in this case. It was announced by the Insurance men that in cases where owners re wire premises after paying their in surance premiums at the Increased rates a rebate will be made.
