Pelican lodge Is In readiness for the coming of E. H. Harrlman, his two ons, wife and other members com poslne the Harrlman party. The lodge Is situated on the western ahore of the Upper Klamath lake, at the base of Pelican mountain, and Is about two and a half hours' boat ride from Klamath Falls. The Lodge, as the place has al ways" been called. Is perhaps back half a mile from the lake, on Pelican creek, a stream of water so clear that the smallest pebles can be seen roll ing on the bottom. The creek Is bor dered on either side by willows and other shubbery, and on account of Its many windings is very picturesque Jts source is two large springs that bubble forth the clearest, coldest water Imaginable It has been an alyzed and the report Is that it con- tains practically no solids and is of exceptional purity. The trout fishing in this stream and out in the bay Is very fine. Trout of almost Incredible size can be seen out in the bay, but yt is not often that the largest can be hooked, as they are too wary. The largest ever reported caught in Pelican bay weigh ed 22 pounds and was caught by J. P. TJpplncott of the reclamation serv ice. Short . creek, crystal creek and numerous other small Ftreams empty ing into Pelican bay are good fishing grounds and picturesque streams. DANGER IN DELAY. V!n-at Goes 45 ISiisIkIh. Threshing was commenced on the John Kennedy place Monday. Mr. Kennedy has one of the finest pieces of grain In this section. George Bar ber, recently from Illinois, who Is working for Mr. Kennedy, brought in a sample of the grain a few days ago taken from an 80-acre field. The grain Is of the Canadian club variety and that brought in by Mr Barber measures a little upward of six feet In height and the heads are unusually large and well filled. Sev eral of the heads shelled out showed 74 grains. Mr. Barber says he has traveled pretty much over every state In the union, but never saw grain that equals this.
