Some of the farmers In the vicinity of Pilot Rock have become very much alarmed over th damaae being: done by tne grass hoppers this season. They seem to be In spots, and In various places the e.pfind and third cuttings of alfalfa have been almost totally destroyed by them. They have not been known to v. n had for many years, and some declare it is on account of the dry season. Many of the gardens in mis vp heen almost entirely Je stroyed by the pests, and altogether the damage will be quite heavy. No mntprial damaee has yet been done in th immediate vicinity of Pilot Rock, but many complaints are com ing in from a few miles out. Hall is still being held in W alia alia and serious charges may be brought against him. Mrs. Magrl VoUendorff, wire or Fred VoUendorff of Colfax, died In St. Marys hospital in Walla Walla, yesterday. The deceased had been pamolna: with her husband near Free- water when she was overcome by ill ness and had to be takeu to the hos pital. Henrv Hoffman of gpringdale, had his collar bone broken and was other. wise seriously lniured Saturday by be tag run over by some boys on horse back, who were riding so fast and kicking up such a dust they were una. ble to see him. The grain harvest in this section of the county Is nearly over, and the farmers are better pleased than It was expected.
