If the case is contested defend ant on appearing must pay 15. and the case will then take the course of an ordinary foreclosure proceeding, The tax title problem has long been a disturbing one, and the new law Is the result of an effort of the legislature to bring such matters to a quick conclusion, putting heavy risk and penalty on the person who al lows six months to elapse without paying taxes on land. F. M a4 lock Given Former Oandl date's Ilace on Convention Plat form. While attending the democratic na tlonal convention at Denver W. F. Matlock was several times mistaken for Judge Alton B. Parker and en- oyea tne distinction because or a personal resemblance between ths one-time presidential candidate and himself. At one time early in the conven tion Mr. Matlock was approached by the head master at arms of the con vention, who said: "Come with me, judge, and take a seat on the platform." As he was entitled to a seat on the platform, through virtue of the fact that he was one of the convention vice presidents, Mr. Matlock pro ceeded to take the usher's advice and was given a seat of honor In .the front row on the platform. Not until later did he learn that he had been shown the courtesy because the offi cial had mistaken him for the man from Esophus. The platform seat given him was his until the end of the convention and he consequently really occupied Judge Parker's place throughout the session. At another time during the con vention Mr. Matlock was seated with the Oregon delegation when a by stander was heard to exclaim, "Judge Parker Is hanging out with the Ore gon delegation."
