Unlit Lands W1U Give Normal
Yield.
It harvesting reports now reaching
the city are well-founded, Umatilla
county Is not going to fall very short
of an average wheat crop this sum
mer. Some weeks ago it was the gen
eral impression that the yield would
be but two-thirds or three-fourths of
the normal amount. But such' pes
slmlsm is knocked in the head by the
returns that are now coming In.
Threshing has been on in the north
western part of the county for over
a week and all reports from that sec
tion show that the "light land" couu
try will have normal yields this year,
At the Ed Delwo place, near Noltn
threshing has just been started and
a yield of 13 bushels per acre la re-
ported.
Threshing Is Just Blurting on the
reservation and but few reports have
been received. Hut In every Instance
they are hopeful for the farmers are
gutting more wheat per acre than
they had expected.
At the Schwandt place on the res
ervntlon the wheat Is running between
30 and 40 bushels per acre, practi
cally a normul yield. Other thresh
ers are now being started on the Tom
Thompson, Knight Bros., Peringer,
Ferguson and other reservation
ranches.
Threshing In wheat is Just now bo

reported. This section of the country
probably Buffered more than any oth
er from the drought and it Is known
that the crops will be light south of
Pendleton. But even in that district
they are proving to be better than was
anticipated.
One instance Is now told of a
rancher who had for a time debated
whether to thresh his grain or cut It
for hay. He finally decided to make
a trip around the field with a com
bine and on doing so round he had a
yield of 18 bushels per acre.
The local wheat market has not
yet opened and probably will not un
til some of the grain is hauled to the
warehouses. At present the price, if
the market were open, would be
about 70 cents.

not right, the railroad company sent
wood to Investigate and the detective
soon obtained enough Information

been released after depositing his
$250 cash ball. It was learned from
Portland that the man had ordered
his time check sent to Huntington. As
this was takfcn by the officers as evi
dence of an intention to Jump out

was Immediately filed against him.
He was. again arrested and hl.s bail

He objected to putting up the ad
