St. Paul, Minn., July 11. Clad In fez and turban and flashing uniform of barbaric splendor, with clanking swords und glittering Insignia, the host of the nation' Shrlners have today taken possession of the Twin Cities and will begin their annual convention tomorrow. From nearly all over1 this country and Canada, and even from Mexico, crossing their Im aginary desert wastes In special train of palatial splendor, the Nobles have come to rear their shrine at the oasis of St. Paul. Reception committees from Osmun Temple, accompanied by hands, met all the Incoming trains and gave the visitors a royal wel come. Throughout the coming week the lavish program of entertainments arranged by the local Shrlners, assist ed by the nobles of Minneapolis and Duluth, will continue without Inter mission. The merchant of the Twin Cities have aided by carrying out a decorative scheme such a has never before been witnessed in this city. The program will begin tomorrow, when services will be held for the benefit of the visitors in all the churches of St. Paul and Minneapolis. For Monday there have been ar ranged steamboat excursions up the Mississippi river to Fort Snelling where the visitor will be entertained at the officers' club. In the evening there will be a grand ceremonial ses sion of Osman Temple at the St. Paul Auditorium This great amphitheater .peats 10,000 square feet. It Is so ar ranged acoustically that the faintest voice can be heard In every corner of the auditorium. This lmmenso stage will be the scene or tnree sec tions, the finest that Osman Temple has ever arranged. Theater parties will be arranged for the ladles on this evening, The opening session of the Imperial Council Will be held Tuesday. For this the St. Paul Audi torlum will be entirely transformed Side trips have been arranged for the ladies on this day, Including launch trips up and down the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. Tuesday evening there will be the Shrlners' grand electrical parade which all Arab patrol, - bands and other visiting parade features will participate. The streets of St. Paul will be gorgeously'fllumlnated'on the '.'Way of Light" The night parade Is expected to.' surpass anything that has been yet attempted and there will probably be between 15, 000, and 10, 000 Shrlners In line,- each wearing the fez and the full dross uniform of the order. Every dlyiston will be direct ly In charge of Imperial officers, rep resentatlves and potentates from all parts of, North America. The visiting patrols will give exhl bitlon drills In St. Paul ball park Wednesday. It la expected that there will be over 20,000 contestants and In addition drills by visiting ladles' pa trols. On this forenoon there will also be steamboat excursions up the Mississippi to the Minnesota Soldiers' Homo and the romantic Minnehaha fall, made famous In Longfellow's beautiful poem. On Wednesday there will be international automobile races at the state fair grounds which have an area of 247 acres. The track Is one of the fastest In the country and the most noted International drivers will take part. The Arab pa trols, bands, etc., will parade on Nicol let avenuo. the most beautiful street In Minneapolis. The parade will be followed with a banquet and a recep tion at the Minnesota state capltol. Thursday will be Minneapolis day. The officers and members of the Im perial council will be the guests of Zurah Temple. There will be a ride about the city and a trip to Lake Mlnnetonka. On the evening of this day Noble Oebhard Bohn will tender a reception tp the nobles and the vis iting ladies. One hundred of St. Paul's young women, gowned in white Will serve refreshments. A grand re ception will be served at the state capltol In Minneapolis on Friday. The capltol covers six acres and cost J4, 500.000. The entire building will be thrown .open to visitors. . Twenty-Five Thousand Visitors Al , ready In tlus City. Dallas, Tex., July 11. Evidence Is to bo seen at every turn In Dallas to day that the great national conven tion and reunion of Elks is at hand. Although the grand lodge does not begin its session until Monday, an estimated atttendance of 25,000 visit ors Is already here. The local station report that the arrival today will break the record. 1 The Dallas Elk doing escort duty are having a hot time. ' While many diversion are furnished the visitor, the delegate are already engaged In a lively con test for the election of officer and the selection of a place for next year1 convention. Log A-ngeles is one of the early bidder for the 1909 re union, but there is abundant evidence that she will have aeveral strong ri vals. The grand lodge will be opened In the great auditorium at tne fair ground with a musical program and addresses, and elaborate entertain ment In the afternoon and evening. The big parade come on Friday. While the delegate are engaged in their sessions, many entertainment have been arranged for other visiting Elks and their ladle. "DRYS" PREPARE FOR MEET. Prohibi tionists are beginning to arrive for the national convention to be held Wednesday and Thursday at Memorial hall, and the state convention to be held Monday and Tuesday at the board of trade auditorium. neaa quarters for the two gatherings wore opened today at the Nell house. It Is expected that all of the delegates to the state convention will have ar rived before tomorrow morning. At various hotel headquarter have been reserved for gooa-sizea delegations from Minnesota, iwtKoia, Mirhiiran. Montana. Colorado, Illi nois, Indiana, Kansas ana iowa, me delegations from New England and the east are expected to be of large proportions, and the south will be better represented than at any of the previous conventions of the party. Con- plcuous figures In the gathering will be such old-time prohibition leaders as Dr. Samuel Dickie or Albion col lege, Rev. S. C. Swallow of Pennsyl vania, Oliver W. Stewart of Chicago, A. G. Wolfenbarger of Lincoln. Neb., and Felix T. McWhlrter of Indianap olis. The lift of presidential possibili ties Is being added to dally. Among those whose names are being promi nently mentioned for the presidential nomination are Seaborn 'Wright of Georgia. Frederick Wheeler of Cali fornia. Joseph P. Tracey of Michigan, Dr. J. B. Cranfill of Texas, Airrea Manlerre of New York, and Dr. W. Pelmore, editor of the St. Louis Christian Advocate. The selection of a vice presidential nominee will depend largely upon what section of the country the presi dential choice comes from. Among the candidate are Judge Samuel A. Artmn of Indiana. J. B. Lewis, a member of the Massachusetts legls lature. and Professor A. S. Watklns of the Ohio Northern university. The chief business of the conven tion, aside from the nomination of a ticket, will ,be the adoption of a plat form. It Is said that the platform this year will have little to say on any question other than that of the liquor traffic. In the course of the conven tion proceedings there will be report and discussion of the present wave of prohibition spreading over the coun try by leading members of the party. Kodol 1 sold by Tall man ft Co. DR. PARKER ACEPTS CALL. Iloxton Man to Control Baptist Mis sions In Oregon. Boston, July 11. To accept the call of the Oregon state Baptist conven tion, Dr. F. C. Parker, assistant pastor at Tremont Temple, has resigned his Boston charge. Dr. Parker will leave for Portland In September or early In October. Dr. Farker In coopera tion with Dr. Henson has made fa mous the Tremont Temple of Boston. For four years he has labored with unbounded success and his resigna tion coming soon after that of Dr. Henson has astounded the wealthy congregation. Today Dr. Parker said he believed In the state of Oregon there Is won derful opportunity for work, and al though he has been urged to remain In Boston he has decided to accept the call. Dr. Parker has been appointed general missionary for all of Oregon and will make his headquarters In Portland.
