Time was, and that not so long ago, when a dinky, squat little structure or 20 or 26 stories was considered a veritable triumph of the sky-scrap ing art. We of New York, who take such pride In our high buildings, are almost ashamed to admit that we were ever awed by such toy buildings, yet such Is the fact. Away up on a side hill in Selah gap stands a little stone cabin which has caused fore Inquiry during the past month than probably anything else In Yakima valley, says the Yakima Re public. The cabin Is built on an In cline of about 45 degrees, fully 40 J) feet above the railroad track' on thb west side of the Yakima river. Nobody knows who Inhabits the humble dwelling and nobody knows when It wan byllt. Strange stories have been told con cerning the owner and occupant of this lone'y home. Some have said the home was that of a hermit. Oth ers have said the man who Is sup posed to live there Is a prospector. Some few imaginative ones have sug gested that the pile of rocks might contain some one who had literary ambitions and had moved to the re mote 4pot to formulate a western story of the hills. No one has been found who has ever seen any human being go in or out of the cabin. Although it Is built fur above any sign of water, the oc cupant has planted garden seed and from . the wagon road through the gap can be seen green stuff growing. Huge native stones have been piled on top of each other to form the sides of the little building. A sort of thatched roof has been built over the walls. There Is a well beaten path leading from the railroad track to the cubln door. Because no one is ever seen to go in or out of the cabin, many wonder at the well-trod den path.
