Gene Sullivan, who Is to meet Kid Scaler nt the Coeur d'Alene theater says his brother, Dan Sullivan, who went with the American team to the last Olympic games, Is now working out at Seattle with Frank Gotch, act Ing as the training partner for the champion, says the Spokane Chron Icle. "That Is going to be the greatest wrestling match of the decade, when Gotch meets Roller," says Sullivan. "Untch nns mor nnlds than any wrestler I have ever seen. He has holds that no one else knows and he has so many of them that the other fellow never knows what Is coming, Ho Is faster than ever. - "As for Roller, every one knows he must be good or he could not win from the men he has met In the last year. For the purpose of irrigating sev eral thousand acres of what Is con ceded to be tho most valuable land in the state of Washington, Fechter & Hudkln, purchasers of the Northern Taclflc Irrigating canal, are having surveys made on what Is known as the Relief flats west of Kennewlck, says the Reporter. For several days mirvevors have been running linos and if their report is as satisfactory as Is expected there is every reason helli.ve that the Droiect will be completed. With a lift of 150 feet it Is bellevod that 4000 and 6000 acres of that ex cellent land can be put under water and made to produce such fruit aa only the Kennewlck valley can grow The land Is above the frost Hue and Is remarkably productive, waiting only for the water to convert It Into the richest soil in the northwest Although no official Information can be obtained, as nearly as can be learned the scheme Is to establish a large pumping station In the vlcln Ity of Relief and take the water from the Northern Pacific canal to be dis tributed through ditches to be -con structed on the flats above." While It will require a large amount of mon ey to complete this enterprise It Is an acknowledged fact that the re sults would more -than amply Justify the Investment. The work of surveying has been going on quietly as have other in vestigations since the purchase of the ditch by Fechter & Rudkln. It is known that other- capitalists have become interested and there is every evidence pointing toward some startling developments in the Kenne wlck valley In the near future. "Those who are In any Way famil iar with conditions around Kennewlck will realize what It will mean to have those Relief flats Irrigated' said one of the largest real estate dealers In the valley. "There Is no land like It In the Kennewlck Valley, the Wenatchee or Yakima valleys, or anywhere on the coast that I know of. If Fechter & Rudkln Irrigate that land they will be Improving the best tract of land I know of. It will mean more development In this section than there has been for some time and It Is certainly .to be hoped that they will succeed with the enterprise." Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crawford and family have gone to Portland for the summer. Attorney R. R. Johnson was among those In the city from the west end yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Means and daughter, Hazel, are now In Portland enjoying an outing. W. Roy Saxton of Hermlston, was here yesterday and Saturday evening upon a visit with friends. Ross Newport of the Newport Land & Construction company, came up from Hermlston thhj morning on No. Mrs. F. W. Vincent and daughter, Eleanor, returned, from Portland last evening and will spend the summer here. Attorney S. F. Wilson of Athena, was In Pendleton Sunday In consulta tion with his partner, Will M. Peter son. Hans Lorenzon was In the city to day after supplies for his ranch northwest of the city. He will begin harvesting next week. Mrs. W. F. Gulon went to Walla Walla Saturday evening to be with her husband, who has been In the hos pital there for a couple of weeks. Editor Bert Huffman of the East Oregonlan, accompanied by his wife, returned this morning from Portland where they had been since Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Crowner left to day for Walla Walla, where they will reside In future, Mr. Crowner having secured a position In a liquor house there. Miss Edith Still of Milton, and a student at the Weston Normal, passed through here last evening on her way to Wallowa county to visit with friends. Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Garfield return ed this morning from Umatilla where they spent Sunday cruising in Dr. Garfield's new gasoline launch on the Columbia river. Mrs. Charles Welttenheller and daughterln-law, Mrs. Viola Weltten heller of Plattevllle, Wis., are the guests of their friends, Mr. and Mrs, A. F. May on Bush street, for a few days. Lester Cronln and bride arrived to day from Denver and will remain in the city for a few days before going to Touchet, Wash., to visit Mr. and Mrs. Logan Renn at that place for a short time. Major E. E. Hall, claim agent for the O. R. & N. company, who has been confined to his room for several months in Portland, Is out again and passed through the city on his way from La Grande where he had been on a special case In his department. Comes to the Presby terian Church. Rev. W. E. Warrington of Prince ton, N. J., has been selected as the pastor of the new Presbyterian church at Pilot Rock and he will also serve the Uklah church as regular pastor. Rev. Warrington Is Just out. of Princeton seminary and comes west to remain permanently. He will arrive over the O. R. & N. tomorrow from the east and after taking part in the Indian campmeetlng at the old agen cy grove will go to Pilot Rock next Sunday to preach his first sermon and take charge of the work In his new field. Prohibition Empties Jail. The Pike county Jail does not con tain a single prisoner and has not had one for over a week. This may be said to be due to the enforcement of the law against the liquor traffic. If the wonderful improvement in the morals of this town and county con tinues for a few years at the rate it has gone in the past 10 days a Jail will be one of the useless properties of the county Petersburg, Ind., Press. Lid on at Prower. All business men of Prosser, Wash., have been notified that hereafter they must keep their places of business closed on Sunday.
