' One hundred women of North Yak ima began work today on one of the biggest enterprises that has ever Been undertaken bv a body of women of this city, namely, to raise $10,000 in 10 days, says the Yakima Kepumic. This money will be used In furnish ing the new $70,000 Y. M. C. A. bulldng, which has Just been com pleted. The proposition Is known as the 'iTen" undertaking because there In 110.000 to be raised, 10 days to rale It In, 70 committees of wonfon with 10 women in each committee, F.ifh rommlttoe has its chairman and every woman In each committee re ports the progress she nas maue at the close of each day of the cam paign. Wishing to help provide a place of amusement for their sons and brothers, the women of the town have generously come to the front and formed the organiza tion which Is bent on doing Its share toward providing the necessary equip ment. Report comes from an unofficial though reliable source that the Short Line shops In this city will reopen at full blast on July 1 nnd that all the employes who have been enjoying temporary lay-offs will be called back to work, says the Pocatello Tri bune. It. Is believed that the work hereafter will be steady. A steady Increase In traffic over the Short Line In both the passenger and freight departments Is assigned as a reason for a resumption of oldtlme activity In the mechanical department. Rail roads entering Salt Lake report a heavy passenger traffic and the same Is true of the Short Line through Idaho. This, It is said. Knights of Columbus will come to North Yakima Sunday from all parts of the state to participate in an ex emplification of the first, second and third degrees of the order, says the Yakima Republic About 35 candi dates from North Yakima will go through all the rites and rituals con nected with the initiatory exercises. The services will be held in Mason ic tomple. Beginning at 10:30 in the morning the exercises will continue all day. In the evening a grand ban quet to the delegates and new mem bers will be given. The headquarters of the visitors will be at the Hotel Yakima. The first degree will be exempli fied by the Seattle team; the second by the Spokane team and the third by a team picked from different parts of the state. Every preparation for the comfort and entertainment of the visitors Is being made. The day will be a notable one to the local order. Wnnt Noiseless Paving. A movement has been started by a number of the attorneys and county officials to have Joint, action taken by the county and the city to lay as phalt upon the parts of First, Second and B streets, surrounding the coun ty court house, says the Yakima Re public. The noise of any passing ve hicle passing along these roads and particularly along B street echoes In the court house and especially In the court room to such an extent that It Is impossible to hear an ordinary voice at the distance of a few feet. Just why the court room is so sus ceptible to the noises outside Is not known, but that It Is so is appreciated by all who have business in court. A buggy passing along B street appears to make about five times as much noise in the court room as It does on the street. Coeur d'Alene had as its guest this week the author of "When Knight hood Was In Flower," Mr. Charles Major, says an Item from Coeur d'Alene City. While here he visited with his friends, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fcrnald and Miss Lorena Woods. He spent a few hours at Hayden lake and was especially pleased with the scenery there. Mr. ajor's home Is In Indianapolis and he Is on his way there now. He has been spending a few weeks In the west as the guest of J. McA. Webster, agent of the Col vllle Indian reservation.
