W AMONG THE OF INLAND Indian, Booze, Knife, Death. Frank George, the Indian stabbed at ToppenlBh, la not expected to live through the day. Ills condition be came decidedly worse yesterday and Infernal hemorrhage, caused by the knife wound In his side, la likely to prove fatal at any moment, saya the Yakima Republic. Sheriff Edwards yesterday went to Toppenlsh and brought Pahashapaytlt, held for the atabblng of George, to the county Jail. The Indian says that his American name la Henry George and that he Is a cousin of Frank, the mnn stabbed. He Is but IS years of age. Before taking Pahashapaytlt from Toppenlsh Sheriff Edwards took the man to the room where Frank George Is being cared for and Frank Identified him as the man who had stabbed him. Frank stated that he and accused his cousin of taking his horse and that the boy and Koose moot, who was with him, got him drinking and enticed him out of the town and then attacked him with knives. Henry George refused to talk. He has retained O. G. Lee to defend him and has been advised not to make any statements to the officers. "By and by I talk," was all the sheriff could got out of him. ' Koosmoot has not yet been arrest ed, but he is sure to be found within a few days. Surveyors Active. Strathorn, of .the North Const, who was In the city last reok. actunl work on the road will begin even before the presidential campaign Is under way, says the Pasco Express. Survovlne crews working below Pasco on the west shore of the river ave been enjraired during the past few davs In soundlne the shore on both sides of the river. Their action ould Indicate, according to the opin ion of railroad men, that the.company Is still keeping an eye on Pasco despite the many rumors to the contrary. Chief Engineer F. L. Pitman and C. Milwaukee, Wis., June 4. It Is esti mated that at least $50,000 will change hands on the result of tonight's 10-round battle between Billy Papke and Stanley Ketchell for the middle weight championship of America. Both men have large followlngs and many big wagers have already been made. There Is every prospect that the big Hippodrome will be filled with such a crowd os has never before congregat ed at a prizefight In Milwaukee when the doors open this evening. Doposters who have watched the two men In training declare that there Is little to choose between them and predict that (i dnclslve victory will be Impossible In the short distance of 10 rounds. It will be a contest that will settle the middleweight title, as there are no others to dispute It with them. Hugo Kelly was claimant of the title, but I'apke won over Hugo the last time they met and now Billy shares the honor with Ketchell. While Papke was winning his way toward the goal In the middle west Ketchell was doing the same stunt on the Pacific coast, and they ore the two legitimate claim ants of the title at present. The win ner of this bout can well claim the title and the boxing followers -of the country will be quick to recognize him as such. They wll weigh In at 154 pounds at 3 o'clock, which Is the same ns weighing In at 158 pounds ringside. The latter Is the recognized weight for the middleweight class, but nowadays people prefer to have the men weigh in hours before the battle so that they will know everything is all right, and 154 pounds at 3 o'clock practically means 158 at ringside. Both men have a brilliant record for the short time they have been before the public as stars, most of their battles having re sulted in knockouts. Ketchell Is cred ited with being the cleverer of the two, but Papke Is a tough proposition for any one and will be able to give a good account of himself. Both . have the punch and It will be a case of who will land first. Whim vou need to take 'something take it promptly for the stomach, but take something you know, is re liable something like Kodol for Dys pepsia and Indigestion. Kodol Is niensnnt to take. Since the return of President Stra horn from California, several engin eering crews have been placed In the field in the Immediate vicinity of Pas co and Kennewlck, thus fulfilling his Dromlss that things would be moving as soon as he returned from his win ter vacation. Yakima Auto Race. Automobiles are to have their day In North Yakima on Saturday when there will be a street parade In which practically all the machines owned here will participate, afterwards strip nine off their superfluous weight and competing In a series of races to be nulled off on the track at the state fair grounds, says the Republic. The participating machines will meet at the earaire of the Washington Auto company at 1 o'clock for the parade. The races will begin at 3 o'clock. The line of march of the parade will be down Taklma avenue to First street, thence to A street, thence to Second street, and thence to Chestnut where the narade will disband to allow the automobiles which are to take part In the races being stripped. The ar rangements with regard to the parade provide for decorated machines and to the machine considered by a staff of Judges to carry the best decorations will be awarded a handsome silver cup. ' Arteslun Water, , Another flow of water was struck In the Rose Land company's" well on the west side of the city about 4:30 o'clock last evening and there Is now a flow of about 400 gallons a minute or approximately 600,000 gallons every 24 hours through the four and a half Inch pipe In the well, says the Republic. The water has a tempera ture of something less than 90 degrees, or about five degrees" higher than the temperature of the big flow previously struck. Workmen at the well do not think that the entire flow has been opened up and the well will be pushed some distance farther to ascertain whether this surmise Is correct. The hole In the ground Is now approxi mately 1800 feet deep. A Telephone Oplata, The elder's wife was seriously III, and the doctor advised rest and quiet But the lady was very devoted to church work and worried herself Into hysteria because she could not attend services and hear ber favorite pastor preach. "She must not leave the house," warned the doctor, "but you can easily arrange to have ber bear the sermon by telephone." The elder grasped the suggestion and made the necessary arrangements for transmitting the sermon Into his wife's room. At noon on the Sabbath the doctor called and asked, "How did It work?" "Flue," declared the elder, rubbing bis hands gleefully. "Teu minutes aft er the sennon bcpui she fell sound asleep." Philadelphia Ledger. Hit Criticism. Robert Louis Stevenson once took an eccentric acquaintance of his to hear Sir Chnrle? Halle play the piano at St James" hall. London. Sir Charles was a musician of the most correct nnd severe British type, though a German by birth. After the concert was over they, walked as far as the Marble arch, neither having spoken. Arrived there, the friend stopped and delivered him self thus: "The manner of the elderly statesman at the piano was somewhat austere and chilling." And then they walked on. A Grand Family Medicine. "It gives me pleasure to speak a good word for Electric Bitters," writes Mr. Frank Conlan of No. 436 Hous ton street, New York. 'It's a grand family medicine for dyspepaia and liver complications; while for lame back and weak kidneys It cannot be recommended . too highly." Electric Bitters regulate the digestive func tions, purify the blood, and Impart renewed vigor and vitality to the weak and debillated of both sexes.
