Yesterday's Dlcnlc was very suvcessful. and alto gether the picnic will be one of the most successful ever held here. To day will be devoted entirely to speeches by the politicians, and va rious sports. The students of the Normal will put on the play, "Uncle Rube" at the opera house also. Elmer Taylor has returned from an extended tour through western Canada, and he says he wants no more of that cold clime. Mrs. P. S. Rogers has srone to Wis consin where she will spend the sum mer with relatives. There are a number of the old pio neers here who have gone elsewhere In recent years. They enjoy coming back to the annual picnics. Biwy Surveyors. Engineer E. S. Clark Is In charge of a crew of surveyors for the elec tric line. The company that is sup posed to be carrying on this work Is the Oregon and Washington Traction company, which company, a few weeks ago secured the right of way for an Immense power house on the south fork of the Walla Walla river. It Is understood that when completed this power plant will be capable of generating sufficient force to operate lines from Walla Walla to Weston. to Wallula and to Dayton. Plans for oi ganlzing an international body of "parlor socialists." to be known as the International Socialist Education al alliance and to be composed of clergymen and men of other profes sions, were mude today at a meetlnz of the Christian Socialist Fellowship. The Rev. John D. Long, the Rev. Charles Vail, the Rev. E. E. Carr, Ed win Markham, the poet. Dr. M. Thor ner, a Jewish rabbi, and other clergy men and literary workers, are Inter. ested in the movement. In speaking of the objects of the international alliance, the Rev. John D. Long, secretary of the conference. said: "It is likely that the Dronoseri broader movement will be inaugurat ed by a mass meeting to be held early In June, to which all the nrofeslonni classes In Greater New York, physi cians, lawyers, teachers, authors a nrt clergymen will be invited.
