But of Tour Tra AMONG THE OF INLAND Murphy Cunal Completed. At a meeting of the board of di rectors of the Murphy Land & Irriga tion company held this afternoon, a report was made by Charles S. Chllds, who hat had charge of the construc tion of the canal and laterals of the system that all the work has been completed and that wator Is on the land, Buys the BolHe News. The members of the board of di rectors present at the meeting were W. F. Cross, C. S. Chllds, Robert Alk inan and George B. Rogers. The lat ter two have Just returned from. Mur phy and report everything flourishing. In speaking of the work before the board of directors, Mr. Chllds Bald that the canal started about a year ago has been completed. The main canal Is nine miles long and has nu merous tunnels aggregating 2500 feet In length. The laterals of which there are 10 miles have been completed and the settlers are using water. One of the members of the board of directors said that It Is the Intention of the company to continue the work and complete the construction of the reservoir for the system as soon as possible. Mr. Chllds stated that the fruit In the vicinity of Murphy hus not been Injured and that a big crop Is expected. He also stated that straw berries are now rlpo and have been ripe for over two weeks. line Sheep Rancli. W. P. Carter of Caldwell, has a contract for building the laterals that will carry water over that portion of the old March & Ireton farms, recent ly purchased by Mr. Moore, which has heretofore been unwatered. There are 30 teams working on the ditch and 15 nu-n on leveling the remaining portion of the farm. The resolution says: He It resolved, by the Umatilla County Har association, that we en dorse the proposed amendment to the constitution of the state of Oregon, referred to the people by the legis lative assembly, Increasing the num ber of Judges of the supreme court from three to five; and be It further Resolved, That we endorse the act Increasing the annual appropriation for the support and maintenance of i:ie l iiiversiiy 01 uretui; ana uc it further ll. sclved, That we urge the voters at the election to be held on June 1, 11108. to assist us In adopting both of said proposed measures. Bristol, former United States district attorney for Oregon, Indors ing the measure and urging its pas sage at the coming June election. Mr. Bristol says: Portland, Ore., May 28, 1908. Mr. C. H. Carter. Pendleton, Oregon, Dear Sir: We are progressing to ward that period In our national his tory where the people will be called upon shortly to again exercise their much-mooted privilege of an elective franchise, and among other things that they will be called upon to con sider will be the constitutional amend ment Increasing the number of Judges of our supreme court. There being some 19 amendments to be voted for, It naturally follows that there will be a great deal of doubt as to the amount of consideration these each will have, and it Is but natural that unless something s done to bring at tention to tho various phases of these different affairs very little Interest will be taken In them. I wish, therefore, to enlist your good offices In support of this amendment. This proposed amendment has tho following advantages: First It simply substitutes regular Judges for the present commissioners. Second It adds no additional ex pense to the conduct of the court, there being relatively the same num ber. of men at the same relative sal aries. Third It will expedite the hearings of appealed cases. Fourth As to all re-arrangements of the Inferior courts comprehended by this amendment, the matter Is left to the legislature as the Interests of the different localities may require. The main proposition is to enlist Interest In this constitutional amend ment so fhat our court may be able to keep up with the progress of the state. Idaho Wool Sale After a meeting of the executive committee of the Idaho Woolgrowers' association this. morning Mr. Stanford president of the association, stated that there will be a special meeting of all members of the woolgrowers' as soclatlon to be held In Boise June 4 and the place of meeting will be the city hall at 10 a. m., says the Boise News. He was not willing to state specific ally Jhe purposes of this meeting, fur ther than to say it was one of the ut most importance to all woolgrowers and he strongly urged that every member of the association who found it possible, should attend.
